Twenty-Fifth Blog: "Is it your own choice, duckling?"

Happy Halloween, everyone~~I hope yours was good and full of delicious candy goodness. Did you know chocolate in moderation is actually good for your teeth?

I didn't do anything on the actual day this year. Last Saturday I went to a friend's birthday party that was Halloween-themed, and that was pretty much it. It was still nice to get out though. I watched The Black Cauldron on Youtube out of boredom, which in retrospect was a silly idea as it only made the boredom worse. The only good part of the movie was the three bargaining witches. The rest was a snorefest, the protagonists were under-developed and Gurgi (whatever the hell he is) made me want to invest in a shotgun.

Tonight I bought two new fish for my 10G, a mickey mouse platy I named Mickey (now that's original) and a black molly I named Marco. Both of them seem to like their new home. I bought them mainly to give my female sunburst platy, Hinomaru, someone to play with. She hasn't had a tank mate similar to her species since my red wag platy, Aki, died a few months ago. Marco is pretty big though. I hope he doesn't turn into a bully. It was a bit depressing to come tonight after work to find my last cory catfish gone--I found Mint, my little green cory, dead under my tank's bridge ornament. But it makes me think the two new additions are a good idea. (I'm going to start keeping cory cats in my 3.5G anyway--my 10G already has an upside down catfish, a clown loach, and two kuhli loaches.)

My very first betta, Lang, appears to be entering his final days. He sleeps a lot and hasn't been eating much. Tonight I also discovered that Pumpkin, my orange betta, has some sort of fuzzy growth on his tail. Also not a very nice surprise. I'm going to change his water and put some aquarium salt in it to help make it go away. I'll add Maracyn if it doesn't work--it's the only medicine I've ever gotten that's remotely worked.

It looks like we've found a home for both of my sister's turtles, which is a very good thing. Mentally, I don't think I was prepared to take care of them long-term. I'm now left with a clean and empty ten gallon. Since I don't think I'm ready for another reptile, maybe I'll fill it with fish again? Part of me wants to put in a single kissing gourami and spoil it rotten but he'd need a bigger tank eventually. Hmm~

Work was pretty quiet tonight what with it being a holiday my store's merchandise has little to do with. I'm very happy to be off tomorrow. I hope Thanksgiving will be nice this year.
