A Different Kind of Holiday Spirit

Dec 22, 2003 21:14

I'm usually Ms. Christmas Spirit, but this past week, my spirit was greatly shaken. My uncle, my dad's 53-year-old brother, passed away pretty suddenly last week due to a heart attack. We just got finished with a draining weekend of the wake and the funeral. I'm going to try to make the best of the rest of the holiday season, but I know it won't be quite the same. What I have definitely learned the past few days is the true value of family and friends and people who care about you and support you. Without it, I don't think any of us could get through this tough time. It just really makes you appreciate what you do have and the family you do have, and the fact that you need to live each day to the fullest and the way you want to live it. Our lives will never be quite the same, but they're better for knowing someone like my uncle who obvioulsy touched so many people in some way or another. What we're left with is each other and a lot of great memories.
I'm sorry I went off on such a tangent, but I hope that anyone who reads this takes those messages with them. Enjoy your holidays with your family, friends and other loved ones.
