Robert's grandmother passed away last night. She was 96. So we are heading out to Salt Lake City on Wednesday to help with the funeral and then staying until the following Tuesday to help with sorting and donating a lifetime's worth of stuff. Most of it has been sitting in the basement since his grandmother went into the nursing home about 8 years ago. And I suspect there is even a lot of stuff that was still there from his grandfather, who died over 15 years ago.
I firmly believe that this is a good thing. His Grandmother had long ago retreated into her own world. She had gone blind with macular degeneration and was profoundly deaf. The last time Robert visited, she didn't recognize him. A few years ago, a fall from her bed broke her hip and she never left her bed after that. She lived a long and happy life and the last few years have just been waiting. She was a grand and independent woman before.
Just tired of death. Ready for spring.
No idea if his mother has internet or if the motel we are staying at does, hm.. but I bet the starbucks does. >:-) So, I'll let you all know when I'm back.
