A Bed! Sort of..
Found a woman giving away an twin xl frame nearby on craiglist, so Melissa and I drove over there this morning. Had to unscrew the slats to make it fit in the Camry, but we got it over without too much of a hitch. Next up, a mattress...
Went to church in the late afternoon, it was good. Had to leave right after it was finished, because Melissa was meeting some of her students at Oakland CityTeam (kind of like a rescue mission for homeless people). The students are thinking about starting a club at their school to encourage more people to feed the homeless, and they were asking Melissa to be their adviser. We both went over there together tonight to check it out.
There was a short message by a local pastor guy (who was really fired up), and then dinner was served. We helped out serving food, but it was cool talking to the guys who have been helping out for years about all the churches and organizations that help out to provide food 6 days a week. And there was LOTS of food...I was really surprised. They even offered seconds and thirds, which was great. I mean,there is so much tough stuff obviously going on for people living in the streets, but it was good to see there were people working hard to help out. Hopefully we can get involved more in the future...
