M is for Malaysians and Movies

We didn't get to meet any Malaysian cuties over the weekend. Drew was adamant in not letting us meet his friends. I can't understand what is the harm, and the rationale behind this. Fox is feeling a bit miffed, but its his nature to let things pass. I am not so good natured. Shan't have lunches/ dinners with Drew till he gives a good explanation. Hmmph.

So the long weekend was spent watching 2 movies. The first was Spanish horror flick The Orphanage. It has enough scary bits to have me tossing and turning in my seat. The uncomfortable seat at the Lido didn't help. There were quite a few loose ends, and hopefully I can find the answers to the puzzles online.

Then I caught Evangelion 1:0 at The Cathay. Such a huge difference in setting. Plush seat with ample leg room. Pity the movie isn't up to expectations. The soul of the story was clearly missing. What spawned millions of toys/ posters/ comics/ anime paraphenalia in the anime series was condensed into a 1.5 hr movie (and incomplete one at that). The haunting soundtracks were missing, and there wasn't enough time to develop the characters. A first time viewer would probably like this better. I recall having bought a CD for this anime many years back. Gonna load it to my shuffle later.
