At least, that's what we wanted our motto to be today. Maybe the fumes from the mineral spirits were getting to us. :)
Working with Jay is such a blast. The print is a bunch of his funny critters flying through the air on bicycles. Katherine & Andy, the grad print student & her husband, invited us all to dinner at their place. Andy *grills* pizza. It's soooooooo good! He makes his own dough & all fresh toppings. With the toppings he put on, it was almost more like bruschetta than pizza-- fresh tomatoes, olives, pesto, garlic, sliced mozzerella.... but no meat. A good portion of the print folks are vegetarians. But that's ok- I got plenty of hot dogs & hamburgers fresh off the grill at Nick's party. :) Katherine & Andy had to visiting dogs along with their own two. All 4 dogs were just crazy & running around & playing with each other & us. Such fun! I love dogs. :)
Jay had the galley proof for a book about his work that's coming out in November. It's titled "100 Posters/134 Squirrels- A Decade of Hot Dogs, Large Mammals and Independant Rock". It's really sweat. One of the 4 Jay Ryan prints I currently own is in there. Plus, he mentioned that he did a poster for Bob Mould's tour for his new album- the one I was raving about a little while back. If you're really currious about Jay & his art, check out
The Bird Machine, the print house he, Mat Daly & Diana Sudyka have in Chicago.
I almost bailed on going to Nick's party. It was 11 by the time we finished up at the print studio & I was feeling a bit tired. But I figured I'd be annoyed at myself if I didn't go & if I got sleepy I could just go home. I had a really good time. Some friends of mine have a new band & they got up & played for a while. They're just as good as everyone's been saying. :)
And now, maybe I should sleep. I've got another big day of printmaking tomorrow. :)
