So there’s some nut that’s been claiming that the world will end on May 21st. I’m not entirely sure why people believe him when he already predicted the end of the world back in 1994 & nothing happened then, either. Still, we all decided that the end of the world was obviously Adopted Brother’s fault since if a gay Pagan wedding won’t cause the world to explode than nothing will. ;-) Of course, I was feeling like there was some sort of apocalypse going on as the DSL was out at my Mom’s house so I’ve been mostly cut off from the world, other than what I could get on my phone. (taking full advantage of that unlimited data plan- yea.) I had a good time visiting with some of my friends- although, alas, I couldn’t get to see everybody, which is the problem with just breezing through town for a couple of days. I keep telling people that I’ll be back for a real vacation in July & I’ll make sure to see everybody then. I’ll have my car with me then, too, since I’ll be driving back (so I can pick some stuff up from Mom’s & travel around to see some family) which will make it easier to get around. I did get to see a ton of people at the wedding, though-not all of whom realized I was coming back for it. Sadly, I discovered that I’d managed to not pack my dress for the wedding. I think when I had to repack my suitcase at the last minute because I’d forgotten to pack some pottery I’d bought for Mom that I must have left it on the floor or something.
I made the guy’s rings & they turned out quite nicely. I was pleased & they were pleased. Eric declared, “You get to live!” when he saw me. As if I’d let my brother down! Working right up until deadline is a fine, time-honored craft tradition, honored by just about all of us who were making things for the wedding-no matter how hard we try to get things done in advance. This isn’t the best picture of them but it’s one I snapped before I mailed them off.
The wedding itself was wonderful. Wonderful couple, wonderful food, wonderful people, wonderful ceremony- wonderful everything. Sis made it up from Virginia with the help of a friend (& brought the dogs with her, so I got to play with Hurricane Hannah & her sidekick Henry the barking cat, which of course made me happy). Brother Mike was Jer’s Best Man & gave a *hilarious* speech, in which he made a joke about the Rapture right as I noticed that Mom was nowhere to be seen (I figure if anyone in my family would get taken to Heaven on the Jesus Express, it’d be her since she deserves Sainthood for dealing with us kids-ignoring the fact that the Rapture-folks are not overly fond of Catholics as a rule). The food was of course fabulous because Jer decided to cater his own wedding, which he admitted later was kind of over-doing things. At least he didn’t try to do all the actual cooking the day of-that was covered by some very generous friends. There was also an amazing dessert spread, too. I barely needed to eat today.
Alas, I had to head back to the train station to head back to Grand Forks so I can get to Seattle for SNAG. Amusingly, I ran into one of the members of the wedding party at the station & we chatted a bit whilst waiting for the train.
