The Potato (Day) of Tyranny....

I don't understand how people that far removed from reality actually get elected. Re-education camps? Seriously? It boggles my mind. And where do people who supported things like warrantless wiretapping on US citizens, Gitmo, & the Patriot Act get off ranting about the destruction of civil liberties?

First off, I mostly went to Catholic schools, which are private, although my high school was public. Still, I learned about fascists, dictators, tyrants & such in grade school initially. I'm old enough that Communism was still the Great Evil we learned to fear from birth.

Second, none of them failed me because along with finely-tuned critical thinking skills I do in fact have a very full understanding of the word "Authoritarian", which is the defining characteristic of a fascist-- which the Wikipedia site you linked describes in great detail. You should read the whole entry. True fascist governments may initially be freely-elected but they don't remain so because that's the nature of authoritarian governments- and is indeed one of the stated goals of Fascism to create an authoritarian, single-party state.

And yes, there is for the most part democratic voting in this country. There are no soldiers with guns pointed at us telling us which levers to pull. We do in fact have actual choices, even if we don't entirely like or agree with them all the time. Just because people you don't agree with keep getting elected doesn't make it non-democratic, it just means you're in the minority.

Which brings me to my last point. I hate to burst your little radical martyr bubble, but yes, we actually do have a very open media here in the US. If we didn't, you wouldn't be able to link all your various YouTube clips & paranoid news sites because they would not exist. (I stopped reading those articles you post because largely, I found them to be as ridiculous & irrational as the stuff coming out of Fox.) Try doing the same thing in a country that actually *does* have an authoritarian government with state-run media- like oh, say, China. In fact, since the advent of the Internet, media has been *FAR* more open than it used to be. I can & do get news from all over the world. Politicians & Presidents get caught when they try change facts because the facts are out there to find & posting them on the Web means that a large number of people can access it all quite easily- unless they happen to live in an authoritarian state where such access is barred.

By the way, Daily KOS isn't a conservative blog-- it's a screamingly liberal one. Huffpost leans liberal but isn't so screaming about it. So you missed my point that *ALL* voices of dissent get shut up, no matter what side.
