So, for the sake of my family & such who'd like to know what I'd like for Yule/Christams/insert-winter-holiday-of-your-choice-here or perhaps my birthday or something,
I'm putting up a list right here on my blog, with links & everything. I've avoided Amazon as much as possible for the simple reason that I'm boycotting them at the moment. (I doubt they've noticed- it's not like I've bought much there to begin with but if you're curious as to why, feel free to ask me.) There's also the fact that most of the stuff I *really* want, you can't actually get on Amazon anyway- they aren't exactly known for their selection of metalsmithing tools & art supplies. Plus, the local Barnes & Noble has a rockin' bargain books selection. Besides which, I'm a Barnes & Noble Member so if you tell them you're related to me & know my phone number, you can get a discount.
This list will be added to over the next couple of days as I do need to work on other stuff. too.
So...
Music
Generally, I'm a fan of indy-rock, alt-rock bands of all sorts. I've been especially getting into more folk-rocky types groups (i.e. Iron & Wine), dark cabaret stuff (Dresden Dolls), & stuff that's fun to bellydance to (MIA)
Dresden Dolls-
Dresden Dolls,
No Virginia,
Yes Virginia(I've been listening to Amanda Palmer's solo album, "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?", since I bought it & love it more each time)
Elliott Smith-
New Moon, since I haven't bought it for myself yet
Iron & Wine-
The Shepard's Dog (or anything else other than "In the Reins", because I've already got that one)
The Decemberists-
The Crane Wife,
The Tain, or any of them, really
Robert Plant & Allison Krause-
Raising Sand They do an incredible cover of Tom Waits' "Trampled Rose" on this that can haunt you for *days*. And speaking of ol' Tom...
Tom Waits-
Alice Tom Waits does Alice in Wonderland- how cool is that?
Trobar de Morte-
Legends of Blood and Light OK a darkwave band doing a song about the Morrigan? Yeah, I'm up for that. Seems like the album might be hard to get, though.
Garden State Soundtrack Juno Soundtrack, Deluxe Edition (This is a two-disc set with a bunch more songs that aren't on the single-disc version of the soundtrack)
Twilight Soundtrack (Or whatever Muse album their song is on, because I likes it lots)
Jill Tracy-
any of them, actually. I haven't heard her much yet but she's in the same vein as Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls) & early Tori Amos
Books
Because you can never have too many books
The Dreaming Place by Charles de Lint
The Coyote Road- Trickster Tales edited by Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling
The Faery Reel- Tales from the Twilight Realm edited by Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling
The Green Know Chronicles by Lucy M. Boston-
Children of Green Knowe,
Treasure of Green Knowe,
The River at Green Know,
Enemy at Green Knowe,
Stranger at Green KnoweApparently the reason I couldn't find these for a long while was because they were out of print
The Rose Labyrinth by Titania Hardie A book with stuff to play with!
Dangerous Laughter: Thirteen Stories By Steven Millhauser OK, I haven't read any Millhauser but the book's been popping up on a number of "Best Books of the Year" lists & it sounds like something right up my alley.
Women of the Asylum: Voices from Behind the Walls, 1840-1945 by Jeffrey L. Geller & Maxine Harris Diaries & writings of women who were confined in a mental asylum against their will.
A really, really cool journal It says, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams". Which is cool.
These are specifically at the local B&N's bargain tables
Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book- 10 3/4 Anniversary EditionI'm still not sure why I don't already own this book...
Build Your Own Stonehenge Because every Druid needs their own personal Stonehenge...
The World of Edward Gorey Goofy T-shirts To Wear At Work & Make My Co-Workers Wonder...
I generally wear an XL & like the lady-fit styles but just regular t-shirts are cool, too
Historical Preenactment Society This shirt's so hilarious, I should check out the web comic it's from
Steam-Powered Heart Any of the Wondermark t-shirts are cool, but I particularly like this one, as it also reminds me of the comic book Steampunk, who's hero actually had a steam engine in place of his internal organs.
This Person Rated R, because we all know I am
Bibliophibian See my previous comment about never having enough books...
Where's My Elephant?, in honor of my many Russian co-workers
Allow me to explain through interpretive dance Tools
Still working on this one....
DVDS
Still working on this one, too...
Other cool things
A really neat print, by the same company that does the nifty journal up in the "Books" section. It says, "Sometimes your only means of transportation is a leap of faith." I'm also a fan of the big blue lotus design ("Breaking Through"), "Troublemaker", "Begin", "Dream", "Freak", & "Breathe With Me" Did I mention they have those designs as magnets?
Pulp Fiction Babe dress DangerDame.com has lots & lots of really cool stuff, but that dress in particular caught my eye.
