I'm all for Animal Liberation, but why is it more important to save the last of a dying species than it is to save animals than are abundant and aren't becoming extinct.
Okay, that wasn't clear, even to myself :D Let me try again. Why is it more important to save the life of a tiger than it is to save that of a cow?
If a species is getting extinct, just let it go. There's no point in catching a couple of them, placing them in a cage in a zoo and encouraging them to make out :)
I know, i totally agree with you. What i basically meant was along the lines of live and let live. I didn't mean a particular the species that are becoming extinct:) It is important to save species that are becoming extinct coz they have no reason to die..or rather be killed. They exist because they provide a balance in nature where every creature contributes to it.It just scares me that once this balance is lost, everything shall cease to exist. Not that i shall live upto that day if and whenever it comes. i am just concerned i guess:) If money that is obtained out of selling whatever body parts of the animals, its clearly cruelty. I believe that the power we have can be used to preserve these creatures and at the rate animals are being poached/killed, who knows one day even animals like cows might start becoming extinct...maybe not.

But the balance is always shifting. It always has and always will. (Evolution, Survival of the Fittest and all that) There's no point in trying to keep these animals from becoming totally extinct. How different is the balance going to be when they are totally extinct to when there are only ten to hundred of a particular species? Unless some calamity can be predicted, I don't think there's a point to forcibly keeping a particular species from going extinct. It's the suffering of animals that bothers me and one tiger no matter how rare isn't any more important than a cow. The only argument I can see for preserving rare species is for increased tourism money. In which case, it's only a financial decision and not one based on compassion. P.S-this post of mine isn't a one-liner:p
I agree the balance shifts and will continue to. I however do not with the 'survival of the fittest' thing. We can always survive even without killing animals like these. I believe in co-existence of all creatures. Its not entirely a point of becoming extinct. Yes, the ultimate issue will be that, but the only reason people are now trying to conserve animals that face extinction is because these animals are losing their habitat and are being poached. Cause of this? We people. Its not survival of the fittest-i think it is exploiting

Agreed on most of what you said but got some of what I said wrong! I agree the balance shifts and will continue to. I however do not with the 'survival of the fittest' thing. We can always survive even without killing animals like these.
Yep. I'm not justifying exploiting animals based on the 'survival of the fittest' thing. 'survival of the fittest' doesn't even mean what it is used to refer to in popular culture. It's just that some species better adapt to the environment and so are more likely to procreate while others don't. There's no point in catching the last two tigers and asking them to do it. If they don't want to, just let it go. I believe in co-existence of all creatures. Its not entirely a point of becoming extinct. Yes, the ultimate issue will be that, but the only reason people are now trying to conserve animals that face extinction is because these animals are losing their habitat and are being poached. Hahaa..okay now u got me wrong in a few places:p "I believe it should be an effort in respecting their existence and co-existing with them."
The respect that we humans need to have in order to co-exist. Animals are not "civilised" as humans. There is no doubt. But that's the way they learn to live in their natural world.
"..would you try to "co-exist" with it or "take care of" it?"
And by taking care of it, it means gradually teaching it/making it learn to ultimately co-exist. If not with animals, with just fellow humans and creatures in general.
"mark of a good post :D" Yeah, i like discussing. ummm, sorta haven't done it in a while:)
Maybe just a question of semantics. A particular deer or tiger probably couldn't care less which words we choose to use as long as we don't hunt them down and hang their skins on our walls. :)
