City officials said they did not know what caused the 80-year-old, 36-inch water main to break at about 10:35 a.m. beneath Fort Duquesne Boulevard,

i was awake after a bad night, watching the morning news and such, and every local station breaks in to talk about this water main break. oddly enough, the only thing i can think at the time is "damn, i wish i still worked at Palomino because i know that they're screwed for the next four days." the restaurant is literally around the corner from where the break happened, so i'm sure that they're down and out for the weekend.

what's funny about the above quote, though, is the obvious: um, 80 year old water main? did no one think that maybe pipes that carry water on a 24/7 basis might need upgrading every now and then? the longer i live here, the more i'm convinced that no one has any idea what the hell's going on.

i haven't talked to my neighbor upstairs since before i left for Toledo, but it seems like he's moved out. i caught the gas company turning off his line the other day when i was on my way back from moving the car across the street (damn street cleaning, something i'm not going to miss). the outside light also doesn't work, which is another bad sign, since it's on his electric. i know this sounds like i'm the crazy guy who watches everyones' move, but when you live in a duplex you have to watch your back, especially if you're not the one paying for the dryer.

so i guess i'm back to the laundromat for the next three weeks. at least until i get into Cleveland for the next opening.

sucks.
