finally checked my email for the first time in about two weeks. i've almost got to plan ahead, simply because my ISP tends to deal me slow dialup speeds or just plain disconnect me after, oh, three seconds. good connection tonight, high bandwidth, no problems, so i got the sum total of 62 messages, 50 of which were bad, very bad porn. where does this come from? i've supposedly got a good spam blocker on my email, but still...

loss for words. bought three new books today, cooking, travel, and novel. i've gotten into the habit of buying cookbooks these days even though i don't cook for myself at all. knowledge is power? whatever. they're fun to read and get new ideas from. travel keeps my mind wandering and the fiction? again, whatever. fifty pages from the end of the Bryson, simply because i hate having to tell people at work what i'm reading.
the Vowell is next. it's got a good cover.
