Dancing

I'm learning Lindy Hop right now (a from of swing dance), which is quite fun. However, all of my habits in dancing right now are trickling from contra dancing, which can be a bit problematic. In contra, it really only matters that you're on the right measure, and if you fall off of that, the way to fix it is to either speed up or slow down your current move. In Lindy Hop, on the other hand, you have to stay on beat, and speeding up or slowing down something just doesn't work. I also have the habit of only being focused on getting to the right place and moving my body in the right way, and my feet serve only as a tool to make those things happen. Again, problematic in Lindy Hop, where keeping your feet moving on the right beats is the important point.

The good side is that contra taught me to keep up a strong connection with people and I'm good enough at contra to know how to lead other people with that connection. So, I apparently have a pretty good connection - I just need to actually keep on beat and move my feet appropriately on those beats. It's just a matter of reprogramming my brain to pay attention to those additional things while dancing...

In other news, work has been a bit crappy lately. Almost everything I've had to do has been pending other people getting me things (like a development build that can do little things like, oh I don't know, read its own settings...). And I've been getting a bit frustrated with some of the tasks I've had lately.

But my weekends have been quite fun. We've had some good parties, I learned to ice skate (which is fun! And I only fell on my bum once!), I had some great birthday times, and I've been hanging out with friends at Amarna, Phi Tau, and Alpha Theta. Hooray! :-)

The problem is this weekend, where apparently everything is happening on Saturday evening. I literally want to be in four places at once. Phi Tau has Milque & Cookies, Amarna has Wine & Cheese, Montpelier has the amazing contra band Clew Bay and caller Will Mentor, and there are multiple good concerts in the area. Bah...
