I had the day off today, and I called my mom up and asked her if she'd like to come around to a couple of thrift stores to see if we couldn't find anything to use in the wedding. She hasn't really been around when I've gone looking for wedding stuff. As such, she hasn't really been involved with my ideas for the wedding decor, and I'd really like to keep her in the loop. She was thrilled, so she got my dad to drop her off at my place and we went from there.
We ended up buying about 80 forks to go with the ones I had already bought. We counted and I've got 105 in total which gives me some to play around with to make sure we get it right. I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but I'm hoping to make bent fork placecard holders, something like this photo:
I think they're super cute and will look great with my rustic theme. Buying old forks at thrift stores is actually super cheap! We spent maybe $12 on forks in total.
We also, between three different stores, bought about 30 small vases with fluted tops, like this:
They were about fifty cents each, and I figure I can put two per table, and then maybe a couple more on the head table. I'm going to fill them with moss and battery operated lights to do a version of this:
We went to Michael's and picked up a set of lights and some moss to do a test one and even just thrown together in 5 minutes it looked really cute. The only problem is the only available sets of lights at Michael's was a set of 10 lights (not nearly enough light) for $10. $10 times 30 vases, plus the cost of moss?? That's getting super expensive! So, I'm ordering lights (sets of 30 lights) and bulk moss from ebay, and it will cost me about half as much. As much as I love Michael's they are just too ridiculously overpriced.
I also bought an orange vase to go with the other orange vase I had previously bought (not sure if I mentioned) to go on the card table. I want little splashes of orange throughout, and I think they'll look really nice. I also picked up a few days ago three green glass vases for us to put our bouquets in while we eat.
Speaking of bouquets, I ordered a bunch of brooches on Etsy, and several friends have already started giving or looking for brooches for me. I now have about 20 brooches for my bouquet! I'm thinking I will need at least thirty, but I'm hoping my grandmothers will donate a brooch to my cause at least. I also ordered from Ebay about 200 buttons so I can do button bouquets for Sarah and Christina, and button boutonnieres for the guys.
I'm hoping the boutonnieres will look similar to these, but with green leaves, and our wedding colours:
and the bouquets will be full and multicoloured like my bouquet is. I thought about doing them in the wedding colours, but I want them to be bright and colourful and whimsical and I think it would be limiting me if I was just going green and purple with a bit of orange. I'm hoping to do something similar to this:
It's probably going to be a lot of work, but Danielle has already offered to help, and the wife of one of Mike's classmates really wants to help out, too. And, of course, my mom is super crafty, so she will also be a big help. I guess maybe I will have everyone who wants to help out over to my mom's place (it's bigger than ours, so more room for us to actually, you know, sit down) for a crafting party.
And finally, I'm doing burlap table runners. I think they'll look really nice and tie everything in together. I wanted to order them now, but I really need a measurement of the tables before I do so. I had intended on making them myself, but it looks like it might just be cheaper to order them on Ebay!
Oh, and my mom's friend just finished a cake decorating course and has offered to make our cupcakes at the cost of the ingredients and not charge for her labour! Definitely something I'm going to talk over with Mike!
I'm so excited.
