Neil Gaiman and Grilled Cheese

Mar 27, 2012 09:27

I had a dream last night that Neil Gaiman posted on his Tumblr that he would be at a certain restaurant in my area. I was thrilled because I'd probably never have the chance to meet him otherwise, so I gussied myself up and headed down there. I was one of the first people to arrive.

When the handful of us were all there, he told us that he would be making grilled cheese sandwiches for all of us, and then we would be able to sit down and ask him some questions. He started making mine, but he was making it with roast beef. I was so honoured that he was making me food that I didn't want to tell him that I don't eat beef, and I had to eat it anyway. Somehow it ended up that I was sitting at the same two person table as him and we had a long chat. It was lovely.

I went home, and the next morning, Mike and I were sleeping when the phone rang. I answered it and got a recorded message saying that it was a confidential message for me and if it were anyone else answering the phone, they should hang up. Then a recorded message from Neil Gaiman came on and I guess my witty banter had impressed him as he was inviting me to some sort of party. He told me to call a number to get directions and confirm that I was intending to come. But I was half asleep, and didn't have a pen so I started hitting Mike and trying to get him to wake up and write the number down while I was shouting it out. Somehow, in all the confusion, we ended up writing down two extra numbers. I couldn't be sure if it was just me being stupid, or if Neil wanted to make sure that no one else who might be listening would end up calling him and added two extra numbers.

I couldn't figure out which numbers I should remove, and was going to *69 the phone call to find out what the number calling was in the hopes that that was the number I was supposed to call. Unfortunately, the phone started to ring and when I answered it, it was Sarah. She sounded frantic, and I was upset that I missed my chance to find out the number and was losing hope that I would be able to go to Neil's party. She said that some guy had posted a photo of me online and was calling me his girlfriend and I should check it out.

The photo was a grainy one of me in a car, driving away. I could tell by the outfit that I was wearing that it was taken when I was leaving the grilled cheese party. It turned out that the guy was a strange person from somewhere I had never heard of before who claimed he was Neil Gaiman's son, and had been arrested several times for stalking him. I guess he saw that I had been talking to Neil a lot and figured if he claimed I was his girlfriend he'd have an in with Neil. I was furious because I assumed that Neil would think that I was just a spy or something for this guy.

I never did figure out which numbers I should leave out, and was too upset about this guy ruining my reputation that I didn't go to the party. I stood up Neil Gaiman. :(

I woke up thinking it was real for a minute.
