A little known fact about me is that when I hit the legal drinking age, I became obsessed with cocktails. Not necessarily drinking them, but mixing them for my friends, buying books about them, and deciding that I wanted to be a bartender. I have no idea why, as I've never been much of a drinker. I was just fascinated with the art of mixing drinks ( Read more... )

Glad to see you update. :) I've definitely been thinking about you, wondering. But what good is wondering if we don't take action?

Naturally, since it is the bulk of the entry, I thought about alcohol. I'm glad you are a normal drinker and can appreciate the art of the cocktail for what it is --a skill; part art, part science. I was sort of into mixology in my days; unfortunately, with the kind of alcoholic I am, it didn't mix well (pun intended). I would, when I could afford it, opt for a fancy cocktail; most of the time, however, it was beer (cheap, domestic beer) and shots (of well stuff).

I always prided myself while as an undergrad that I drank only the good stuff. That changed when I had to humble myself and come back home. sigh.

so, I'm jealous really. and I'm an alcoholic (have we talked much about that aspect of me? I wonder if it strikes you as foreign as the idea that you were interested in cocktails; I was a bit surprised at first, but really, it makes sense within the greater context of who you are).

I take it you've been working a lot? How are other aspects of your life?

I hope all is well. I hope work is well and not overly time consuming. I hope you get everything done on your list. And, most of all, I hope you enjoy your vacation. Take care!

Alcoholism runs in my family, so I've been very conscious about alcohol's effects and maintaining a healthy relationship with it. I've had my 3 awful experiences with getting sick from drinking and that was more than enough for me to learn my lesson.

I have an email response partly type up for you, but I really have been almost ridiculously busy. But I promise I haven't forgotten you!
