Armagus? What's that? I mean, it sounds cool enough, but I'd like to know a little bit about it before I decide!

... Well, Armagus is short for "Ars Magus", or magic. An Ars is a spell. It's a fusion of magic, or Magus, and technology.

[ Nodnod. He adjusts his tophat. ] Like... an airship, for example--that's armagus, because it uses magic for power, but it's manmade technology, essentially. Why's it so important, anyway?

I just want to know what I'm dealing with around here! But, that's all really interesting! So, you're kind of like a magician, of some sorts? Or a wizard?

Well, I'm a vigilante, actually! But... I guess it is kind of similar. Since I use armagus to manipulate my automatons, and my sister, to catch criminals, though, I'm using real magic, not strings or stage stuff.

[ Smiles. Yes, that big doll next to him. Her. He moves her in fights. WITH MAGIC. ]

That's so cool! Were you born with those abilities, or what?

Well... I have a higher tolerance for it, so I won't get sick easily if I use too much. I guess it's a bit of both? The rest I learned on my own through the Military Academy and training.

But, I guess you would have to be born with a bit of it to go to that Academy, right?

Oh no, not at all. The NOL doesn't have any requirements to be able to go there, really. I mean, there's an entrance exam, though some people from well-off families go there, too. Anyone can use Armagus, after all.

[ Well it's true. Worse yet the dictatorship that is the Librarium likes to take them young. 8| ] ... Besides, the military is restrictive. If you want to have freedom, being a vigilante is better.

Pretty much! Armagus is a fusion of magic and technology, so you don't have to be a priest or anything to learn that kind of power--you can channel it through objects, like I do, if you're not a natural. But it takes some practice, like anything else.

[ The next part might be a bit of an issue... ] ... But there's laws against using Armagus unless you have legal certification... the NOL who governs the use of it says that it might risk being attacked by people with it, after all, and we just got out of another war caused by abuse of armagus...

[Nodding slowly.] Hmm... I think I got it. Sounds pretty complicated, but still interesting.

I... I don't think it's all that complicated... Actually, I wouldn't mind helping you if that's why you asked...? I have spare automatons anyway, and they're pretty basic. besides, the NOL isn't here, so I don't think anyone will get in trouble...

[ Yeah, Carl has no idea what Haruhi is like. So being the polite boy he is, he's just offered to loan her a magic item. ... Yep. ]
