I am finally gainfully employed here, outside of the column I'm writing for the upcoming newspaper (and on that note, remember to send any questions you might have
here). It seems that one of the previous lab assistants mysteriously vanished, so I took the opening she had previously held. This will certainly be a more productive way to spend my time than to scour the library's science section for something that actually makes me think.
On a similar note, I cannot help but notice that the level of science here, particularly in the physical sciences, is sorely lacking. I checked out a supposedly "advanced" book on physics from the library, and it seems they are still using pre-Einstein physics, which...is simply a sad state of affairs. Do any of the students here know what E = mc^2 refers to? Better yet, have any of them even heard of that formula? I believe I also saw a periodic table of the elements that only goes up to uranium. A good two-thirds of the actinide series is completely absent. It's almost a shame that there are no more science teacher positions available...assuming I would actually be interested in educating younger generations.
