life

not a whole lot has been going on recently. i finally got back to watching my netflix.

i saw Le Samouri, an old french movie about a hitman.
i also saw The Seventh Seal, which is an old classic (finnish?) movie about a knight who plays a game of chess against death. I believe Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey briefly parodied it.

i took some pictures of a dragonfly that didn't mind my presence...

(i encourage you to view the full-size photo here: http://picasaweb.google.com/smirabi/Random/photo#5085685385139492930 )

i've also been sorting through all the pictures other people took in TN on the scout trip. i'm in charge of making a slide show from everyone's pictures. well, we've got about 2300 pictures (5 gigs) from the trip, so that's quite a task.

also related to pictures i finally developed a roll of film i found in my house after katrina. it was sealed up in its black plastic bottle, resting on the edge of a picture frame that did not fall from the wall. it was the oddest thing to see it hanging there by the lip of the lid. it looked almost purposeful. i suppose you want to know what was on the film...

before katrina hit, i had made a habit of sitting in the back yard, under the large metal awning we had installed after a twister picked up our old green fiberglass one when i was little. the twister also took my still unfinished tree house. i digress. i made a habit of sitting out there and watching all manner of local birds feed at the nyjer seed feeders and regular seed feeders i'd hung for them. mostly fiches, the occasional chickadee. it was a beautiful and relaxing time for me. i tried to take their pictures as best i could with my then puny digital camera. i also tried my hand with my brother's old film SLR, with 75-300m lens kit.

also, today there was an outburst in an adjoining courtroom to ours. i wasnt around for it. the guy in the child support case got up and started throwing chairs and everything. he threw a chair at the judge (good old boy named Sam) who responded gruffly "you missed me!" the "security guard" ran for the door and was not much help. i have a feeling security might be revisited following this incident.

um, i've also been playing civ 4. that is a fun game, easily the best of the series.
