So, remember when a whole fucking lot of you chipped in and got me an iPod for my birthday? Yeah - I have to say that you guys rock.

I also have to say that I'm very very sorry. For I appear to have somehow killed said iPod. Not for neglect - up until a week ago I used that thing daily. I replaced the battery awhile ago - and back when it was in warranty Apple had to replace the hard drive once, but it's still the slick little piece of Knox friendship I carry around.

But now - after purchasing a replacement hard drive, and finding that it didn't work. I have to conclude that the poor little bugger has gone and fried it's brain.

Damn.

So I'm left with a conundrum - should I save up a bit of cash to replace it with a shiny new model? Or do I continue to pour money into this thing? Buying all the parts individually to replace anything possibly suspect could EASILY total more $$$ than a new one, but I've already invested in a new hard drive that shall remain unused if this thing stays dead.

On the purely technical side - the new ones do video, and pictures, and color, but have a noticeably "slower" feel to the menus. Mine is damn near waterproof with no physical buttons on the front, but the lack of tactile feedback from a real button makes using it sometimes aggravating, especially when static electricity or wet hands screw with the old touch sensitive buttons...

I feel so bad that it's dying though - everyone chipped in with a huge effort to get this thing. I'm literally in tears right now remembering that day.
