Though I don't clean up nearly often enough, using it as an excuse to blast my music is one of life's little joys.
I've come to the conclusion that my car needs maintenance - in the long run I should have professionals evaluate my automatic transmission, but the poor idling, flagging fuel efficiency / acceleration, and louder rumble from my engine compartment I personally can do something about.
Last time I had it in the shop they suggested that I replace the fuel injectors. Considering this car has 130K miles on it - such might be a very good thing and is likely the culprit for the above symptoms. In the space of an evening and judicious use of Google I went from knowing nothing about such a procedure to being confident that I can tackle it myself. I've ordered a copy of the official Oldsmobile service manual for my car (yay being able to look up exactly what each and every part of my car does / how to remove and replace it!) and have begun shopping around for replacement injectors.
Prices vary - a set of 6 remanufactured injectors can be had for roughly $160, whereas new parts can run $60 to $150 EACH. I could also pull them all, and take them to a repair shop to have them properly cleaned / tested - such might run me $30-$60, and could tell me if I only need to replace a couple or all of them at once... assuming a shop around here actually has the correct equipment for such a procedure.
Anyhow, I'm well on my way to becoming a regular grease monkey :)
I now go to clean and consider the packing up of my possessions in preparation for the eventual move.
