Zombie Room Defense!
QUICK! A low moaning sounds from the hallway and you turn around to see a group of milky-eyed, rotting, living-dead horrors lurching towards you! Yellowed, splintered fingernails claw through the air, reaching for your warm flesh. A foulness wafts from between their stained and gnashing teeth! What have you got around to defend yourself with, Meat-Boy!
Well - the question is - are they coming for the front door, or the back door to the apartment? Both doors are metal and fairly well built. The latches won't hold forever though. The back door is a choke point - they have to take 2 90 degree turns to get at it after coming up the stairs, so they won't be able to get much leverage or a good battering ram in place easily. The front door is more of at a 45 degree angle to the stairwell leading straight up to it. An awkward angle to press a mob of zombies against it, but probably less difficult than the back door. My room doors ( a sunroom ) both have big glass windows in them - so they won't last AT ALL. So I'd best be booking it out of the apartment. If they assault only one door - I'm going out the other and down the front or back stairs to street level. I lack any real weapons in my dorm room, but I DO have a couple of standing lamps that if I dismantled partway would make excellent metal bo-staffs. I'm absolute crap with a staff, but it IS better than nothing at all. I'd take a calculated risk of waiting a couple minutes in the living room to break one of these down before running away. I am however on the second floor, so if both stairs are under assault, I'll have to hole up (not hard to block the back door - I can wedge a chair between it and the kitchen counter and it won't go ANYWHERE. The Front door is a bit trickier to do - but can certainly be reinforced. After that it's hole up, rig a mine-field of high voltage electric fences (yay for having several monitors to break and get HV transformers from!) and sharp pointy things to slow them down if they do break in and tough it out.
