The struggle. I'm learning it's about the struggle.

Normally when people talk about "struggles", they aren't painted in a pretty light (that is, if they're even shared at all). I think a lot of things in life are going to be determined on whether you're a 'glass half full' or 'glass half empty' person. I tend to be a flip-flopper when it comes to the glass.. I would like to believe that I'm a glass half full person though. You just can never tell, can you. But the struggle.. the struggle usually leaves you with the glass half empty. I would think that's fair to say. I think love really tests your view. You'll learn a lot about yourself when you decide whether the glass is half full or half empty.

Can there be love without the struggle? I sure thought so. I think maybe we have a better understanding of love when there's a struggle. The struggle makes you choose, it makes you take a breath. It makes you think about yourself and who you want to be. The struggle will either be an end or a beginning, I guess. Sometimes love just feels so cliche and wrapped in this beautiful giftbox you hate to open because it's just perfect. I'm becoming more and more convinced that society is trying to sell us this unattainable love instead of something that's realistic. I can't think of too many things anymore that are sold to us realistically. Why would we want to look at life realistically when there are so many ways to escape.

Sometimes I think love isn't as freeing as we expected it to be. I think love comes with more responsibility than it does freedom. Sometimes, it doesn't feel like we're getting our money's worth. I guess that's where the unrealistic definition plays it's hand. Where did we ever get the idea that we deserve something in return for love?
