The show was once again fantastic. Audience reaction seemed particularly good, thanks in no small part to the number of truly breathtaking "death-defying" acts in the show. The unbelievably exciting Wheel of Death even got its own partial standing ovation!
Crossing my fingers for rave reviews on Monday...
I wish I could say the opening night party was fantastic. Alas, it was far from it. They chose to hold it in the club level of AT&T Park, just up the street from the Big Top, rather than the giant empty pier adjacent to the site. As I had suspected, the space was awkward and waaaaaay spread out -- just a long narrow L with a low ceiling that made it feel rather claustrophobic. Add to that weak drinks of only gin (Bombay Sapphire was the sponsor) and only ONE SINGLE PASSED HORS D'OEUVRE (yummy garlicky polenta with sun-dried somethingorother on crostini, of which i had about 2 dozen) and you had a pretty lousy party. Consequently, the energy never really got going and everyone seemed to duck out early.
It's too bad -- because the parties they used to throw in the pier were amazing, with their wild floor shows and inflatable furniture and TONS of yummy nibbles.
But hey, it was still much fun. Especially surrounded by all my good friends. :-)
