Settling into the Vongola Underground Base, Lambo, Ippin, Kyoko, and Haru sat nervously. Seconds turned into minutes which, eventually, became three hours.
Then Haru jumped up immediately.
“Ahh! I can’t take this anymore! The tension is killing me!” She broke into a sprint towards the exit only to be stopped by Kyoko and Ippin. Both offered Haru words of comfort and they attempted to calm her down.
Kyoko looked at her best friend with an anxious and worried expression. “Haru, wait and try to calm yourself.”
Haru took deep breaths and closed her eyes. Suddenly her knees gave out only to be caught by Kyoko and Ippin. Each held one of Haru’s arms to support her as she started to cry. Lambo just watched uselessly with a dazed look as tears ran down her face. Cries and sobs shook her entire body as Ippin and Kyoko helped her away to one of the bedrooms of the base. After a few moments, Ippin returned alone with a cup of coffee in each hand. She offered a cup to Lambo, who gladly accepted.
“Thanks.”
“Mhmm.”
He took a sip and then asked, “Is Haru ok?”
She let out a heavy sigh and looked forward, avoiding his gaze. “Lambo, do you… Do you think that, well, that we’ll survive this?”
Lambo chuckled slightly. “I’m sure we will. We’ll find a way to live.”
Ippin shook her head furiously.
“Lambo.” She turned to Lambo and stared at him with fearful eyes, “We’re all so scared. Hibari and Mukuro-san both disappeared months ago. Yamamoto and Ryohei-san are still missing at this moment. We haven’t had any kind of contact from any of them at all. It’s like they’ve fallen off the earth. Or, it is possible that they’ve met a fate similar to Boss.”
Ippin averted her eyes away from Lambo again. Her voice was thick with pain as she continued to talk. “Gokudera-san refuses to return from the forest. He plans on staying there and protecting his body even if it has no more life. Boss is… Tsunayoshi-san is… is…” She was unable to say anymore as the emotions began to overwhelm her. With hot tears rolling down her cheek, Ippin started to shake slightly.
Lambo sighed as he put down his cup of coffee to the side. He then wordlessly wrapped his arms around Ippin. She willingly melted into his warmth and accepted his comfort.
“How about we go outside?” he asked suddenly.
Ippin looked up in shock. “Are you crazy? The other family is still out there looking for us!”
Lambo shrugged nonchalantly. “They’re only looking for the ring guardians. That means that I’m the only target left on their list.”
“No! That’s why we can’t!” Ippin shook her head in a frantic manner.
“Why? I’ll protect you, Ippin. No matter what!”
Lambo puffed up his chest and tried to look “tough.”
Giggling, Ippin still shook her head.
“We can’t. It’s much too dangerous.”
“Why not?” a new and yet familiar voice asked.
The couple turned their heads to Haru who had come back from the bedroom with Kyoko.
Haru asked again, “Why not?”
“Because it’s too dangerous!” Ippin’s voice rose slightly in frustration.
“Well then, I’ll just have to go by myself! I refuse to just stay here while Ta-kun is out there somewhere. I’m going to find him.”
Ippin turned her head away with a “Hmph. I don’t care anymore. Do what you want.”
As Haru started to march towards the door, Kyoko tried to talk some sense into her best friend.
“Please Haru. Think through this carefully! Remember what Tsu-kun told us? He told us to make rational decisions and not to endanger anyone. If you go out there, the chances of getting caught are too high. Please reconsider, Haru.”
Trying to reach the door Haru pushed Kyoko away and ran for freedom. However, Kyoko quickly grabbed her arm and dragged her back.
Meanwhile, Lambo and Ippin were having a heated conversation.
“Lambo! Don’t give her false hope!” cried Ippin as she smacked his arm.
Lambo feigned injury and pouted at Ippin.
“Ippin~ That hurt.”
After hours of talking and planning, the four finally decided to go above ground and search the area for their lost comrades and loved ones.
However, within moments of their freedom, the group was found by the enemy family scouts. The situation immediately turned into a battle. Ippin, Lambo, and Haru found themselves separated from Kyoko and against an enemy too strong to be defeated.
“Lambo! What do we do?” Ippin shouted in a panic tone.
Lambo looked around nervously, attempting to keep calm. But Haru’s frightened whimpers weren’t helping.
His hands started to shake as he courageously placed himself before Ippin and Haru.
He whispered fiercely to Ippin, “When I get his undivided attention, I want you and Haru to run and find Kyoko. Once you find her, take her and run away from here as fast as you can. We’ll meet up at the base.”
Ippin shook her head with defiance. “No Lambo. I can’t leave you alone here!” She ended her sentence with a shrill.
Lambo reassured her as he settled into his attacking stance. The Chinese girl stubbornly refused to give in and also posed to fight.
Then, a tall figure took a place between Lambo and the enemy. Haru gasped in surprise when she recognized the man’s smooth voice.
“Maa Maa. Don’t worry, Lambo, Ippin. I’ll take this fight.”
Yamamoto Takeshi turned his head back to steal a glance at the couple and his girlfriend.
“Ta-kun.” Haru muttered.
Takeshi sent a soft, loving smile to Haru who relaxed at the sight.
“I’ll take care of this.” a smoking teen emerged from nowhere with a short, brunette teen.
“I don’t think that you can handle this alone, Hayato” Takeshi said with a smirk.
The smoking teen glared daggers at the tall man muttering “baseball idiot” under his breath.
The smaller teen looked around anxiously, as if he were looking for someone. He looked strangely familiar to Lambo, but he didn’t know why.
“Uhh..” the brunette spoke. “Was Kyoko with you by any chance?”
“Tsuna! Try looking in the abandoned factory inside.” Takeshi suggested.
Tsuna? Wait.. It couldn’t be.. １０代目??
“Jyu-“ Lambo started but was stopped when he noticed that the young brunette was no longer nearby.
Instead the enemy, annoyed with being ignored for so long, decided to attack the unsuspecting Haru, which was a big mistake.
Takeshi, of course, defended Haru and struck back without mercy. He delivered quick and strong blows that resulted in direct hits. The enemy drew back in alarm and attempted to proceed with caution. However, Takeshi continued to fight until large white clouds appeared around him and transported him to tens years in the past.
In another place:
Kyoko whimpered audibly as she tried to create distance between the enemy scout and herself. The foe just chuckled at her futile attempts as he took long strides towards her. When he was a few feet in front of her, she closed her eyes and covered her head with her arms, bracing herself for the hit she was sure to come. But it never came.
She looked up to see a small, skinny brunette boy. He had an intimidating look on his face as he defended Kyoko with his body. She gasped softly when the young boy turned to face her.
Those eyes she thought. Can it be?
“…Tsu-kun?” she asked. “Tsu kun, is that really you?”
Her voice became stronger with very word.
Tsuna’s eyes widened with shock when Kyoko called out to him.
Tsu-kun? Am I that close to her in the future? he wondered.
When Kyoko realized that her Tsu-kun had truly come back from the past, she flung herself into his chest and threw her arms around him.
Tsuna blushed heavily as Kyoko hugged him tightly.
“Tsuna! You’re really here! I lo-“ her voice was cut off when white clouds enclosed around her and replaced Kyoko with herself from ten years ago.
Tsuna watched as Kyoko from his time period came into view with a confused look on her face. He turned away, promising to explain to her what was going on. He faced the enemy with the dying will to defeat him, to return to the past, to find out what Kyoko was saying before she “left”, and to protect his one love.
