had a phone interview wednesday night-- another bit of midwest love.
spent the rest of the week/weekend in Texas as well as other airports.
left smith on thursday and encountered two of chicago's temperamental weather-swings: my first flight was delayed for 5 hours. missed my connecting flight to chicago, couldn't get on the standby, was told to go back home because there were no other flights. my constant harassment paid off in the end and i was finally able to get to austin: through connection after connection where i was delayed for dallas and ended up sleeping on the airport floor until my break-of-dawn flight to austin.
my hostess was so nice to pick me up though! we zoomed to the school and i quickly changed into my suit, got ready, and was called up for interview almost immediately.
it was a breeeze compared to the last in-person experience AND i was famously known as "the mysterious girl stuck in chicago last night".
after the interviews, my new friends Amy and Sarah accompanied me to go shopping and coffeeing before our "post-interview social gathering."
AHHHHHHH-- the city of austin is to die for.
it has tons of cute vintage stores down south congress street, its artsy, craftsy, historical, and contemporary. im seriously in love with the city. there is SO much to see, do, listen, get involved in... the city is an icon itself: it has the best of both country & city... and lots of ENGLISH men as well!
after shopping, amy & i chilled at the duck & dog PUB (see, english!) until everyone came and just ate, drank, and enjoyed our down time.
The 2nd BESSST part about my austin trip was... rupa!
How many people got to re-unite with their london flatmate this weekend?
- Rupa came to pick me up @ the pub for our reunion.
i had travelled for more than 24 hours and had less than 2 hours of sleep-- but hey, i was with my flatmate, so we got the nightlife going!
- first, i took a niiice hot shower (finally) and changed into NON-interview + going+out clothes.
i was determined to have the best night out since those hours were going to compensate for the 15 hours i missed the day before. we went out with rupa's friends and ate at this tex-mex hula hut on the lake, where i experienced the cheesiest chicken burrito ever. afterwards, we went to this other hut-ish place for mexican margaritas which were muuuch stronger than it looked. the most crowded and active place though was 6th street, aka party street: where the cast of real-world Austin ALWAYS WENT!! it was sooo cool-- there were soooo many bars and clubs lined up that i didn't know what to do with myself.
decision making was difficult but since austin is known as the city of liive music, rupa & i went to this underground but historical-looking "cave" to listen to live jazz and drink bloody marys.
hours and hours later, met up with some more friends at this irish pub for hardcore cider and british, scottish and irish boys! soooo much fun! they were doing a guinness countdown or something, so it was crazy-packed. i was out of it by the end of the night, and after they kicked us out of the club, i realized i was tooo tired to have early-breakfast, so we went hooome.
i was definitely conscious enough to find out my flight home was cancelled for the next day though-- and that they were putting me back on a flight to chicago.
to make a loong story short, i did end up coming back to smith on sunday-- i was 6 hours delayed and by the time i was settled at home, it was technically sunday morning.
oh no im late for class.
oregon interview in 2 days: i'll update afterwards.
