START/END OF THE YEAR!

Holy crap it's that time of the year!

Riverbend officially kicked off last Friday with Tony Bennett opening our season. He was very good. I thought he was more of a Vegas act, but he just stood and sang. I was working the entrance to the pit, so I was about 20 feet from the stage; I actually checked Nick Lachey and Vanessa Milano's tickets (which by the way, she is soooo nice. AND HOT!! I'm okay with my sexuality to admit it.) A lot of Tony's songs were also sung by other artists and my favorites were the ones I actually listen to on iTunes. My mom reminds me a lot about how when I was pretty young, she and my dad took me to see Frank Sinatra at Riverbend. I only have one memory of that night, mainly just being too little to see over the people in front of me with BRIGHT lights, but I kind of imagine Tony had a similar style to Frank's show. Plus, they were both incredibly old.

Monday was Jimmy Buffett which could have blown, but I got to work backstage, which I did last year. There was this AMAZING BAND called ILO and Friends and omgggg! I talked to those guys the majority of my time back there. ILO is cute, and smells AMAZING, and this other guy, who played lead guitar, was just as cute and hysterical. He had me giggling like a kid the whole night. Only thing that sucked was the fact that I didn't wear make-up because it was supposed to rain and I figured I'd be out on the lawn. So I didn't look so hot. Jimmy's group were great too. Except his body guards... all three of them...
Yeah. I get that you're like, insanely famous and popular ONLY IN CINCINNATI, and that you're shorter then me, but that's just a bit extreme. His main body guard came up after their rehersal (I and another boy guarded the upstairs hallway, which is where all of the dressing rooms are, and is how I can talk to all the performers all night) and this guy came and shut both massive metal doors leading to the steps to take you to the stage.
"Jimmy's takin' a nap."
-blink-
IT WAS 6:30. I wouldn't call that a NAP. Plus, he'd shush anyone who talked, including everyone on the tour. He was also the guy who got mad at my mom for READING A BOOK. The whole night, me and this boy sat there in our chairs outside the rooms and basically stared at the wall, or talked to the people. It was awful. By the time Jimmy went on we'd had enough and met in the middle of the hallway to just talk to each other. During each intermission, we'd race back to our chairs when we heard someone coming up the stairs. Jimmy's fellow performers are so nice, better then he is (he flies in on his private jet, performs, then flies back to his house in Florida. Everyone else took a 20 HOUR bus ride to Dallas or somewhere in Texas). They gave us sandwiches, homemade cookies, pop AND the cheeseburger cookies!!!!!! THESE THINGS ARE INFAMOUS IN THIS CITY. There's only one person who makes them (professionally) just for Jimmy and they're so fucking good. I got two. One I ate right there and then, the other I saved for my teacher, Ms. H. She loved it  : )

Friday was Country Throwdown, I worked the lawn and it rained most of the afternoon (call time was 12:15... wtf!) I was soaked from head to toe. Seriously, my clothes were totally different colors then they were when I started. Big mistake wearing make-up too, fucking idiot. I caught a kid with a water bottle full of Jack, so that was my big rush of the day. Well, besides drinking a Rockstar that the staff got for free. Thankfully I only worked 5 hours and got out to go to my friend's dad's funeral (she lost her mom 5 years ago. YEAH. It was horribly sad) Then we had like, 2 different tornado warnings like, a half hour apart to the county next to ours. And now that my dog's afraid of thunderstorms... dear lord. I was going to go back, but as I walked to my car right before I left Riverbend, I decided against it, since my shoes SQUISHED anytime I touched the ground. Disgusting. Thank God I wore my old shoes!

This coming Friday is the Happy Together tour and I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW EXCITED I AM FOR IT!!!!!!! The remaining Turtles, Mickey Dolenz, and then three other acts that I don't recognize. WHO CARES. IT'S 60'S MUSIC!!! MY FAVORITE ERA!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhh I wanna work near the pit, like I normally do in the smaller venue.

3 days-uh. I keep hearing squid-man from Pirates repeat that phrase. School's out on Wednesday and I can't believe it. What a year it has been. The majority of me is beyond thrilled to be OUT AWAY FROM THAT GOD AWFUL CLASS. But a part of me is sad because I don't want to not see Ms. H for 2 and 1/2 months. She's one of my favorite people in the world right now. I got Thursday and Friday off last week (personal days, convenient that I used one to work County Throwdown... idiot) so on Wednesday, after being Ms. H the entire day (I'MMA TEACHER AND SHE TRUSTS ME WITH THOSE 24 KIDS!! And she was doing... something about TAP, which I don't really know what the deals with) I had to finish scoring the kids writing for their portfolios that go into their file. Yeah, I did their entire writing portfolio and some big shot from the district came in a few days before and looked at them, her comment was: 'Scoring Great.' Yeah, I hooped and hollered since, you know, it was supposed to be Ms. H doing that stuff, and I really had no idea how to score them, other then being told, "I normally grade down."
Thanks Ms. H. She was happy for me and I really don't mind helping her, I changed my personal days to the very end of the year for her. But, that Wednesday, I finished doing the last scoring at 2:15. My day ends at 1:45. And we don't get paid overtime. I ended up leaving at 3:00 because we just sat and talked for a while. She and Ms. B have been talking about how much I've done for them this year, especially lately. HA! I LOOK AWESOME!!! Hopefully they would rather have me then the new IA in kindergarten next year.
It better be movie week. And recess week (although, it's gonna be near 90 every day.) And food/treat week. And play week. I'm the only one who knows how to work the technology to get the movie/computer to show up from the projector anyway... and I love when they come to me and say, "Melissa. I can't figure this out."

What is it about late spring/early summer that makes me dig out my Gameboy and play Pokemon?! I did this 5 years ago at the exact same time in college. Don't understand it, but I can't stop playing.
