Summary: The Yunjae/Jaeho version of DBSK's single, Why Have I Fallen In Love With You?
“Come on, Yunnie! Hurry up!” laughed Jaejoong, running ahead of him. “You’re so slow!”
“Slow down!” cried Yunho. “Wait for me!” He was running, running as fast as he could to catch up to Jaejoong, but no matter how fast he ran, it seemed like the gap between Jaejoong and him wouldn’t close. It seemed to grow larger and larger, without end.
Jaejoong merely laughed with exhilaration and turned around to face the sunset, running faster still. “Hurry up! I’m going to reach the end of the road first! I’ll wait for you there!”
“No! Jaejoong!” yelled Yunho, hand reaching out to hold onto Jaejoong. His hand missed, and Jaejoong slipped out of his grasp.
His eyes started to tear as he refused to blink. He wouldn’t allow Jaejoong out of his sight, not even for the second that it took to blink. Jaejoong’s back started to grow smaller as he ran faster, not waiting for Yunho. In a few seconds, he disappeared completely.
Yunho started to run faster than he had ever ran before, ignoring his exhausted body. He ran, trying with all his heart to catch up to Jaejoong. Finally, he saw Jaejoong at the end of the road, waiting.
“Jaejoong! You…” Yunho’s heart squeezed at the sight of the woman standing next to Jaejoong, holding his hand. Jaejoong wasn’t waiting for him, he was enjoying his time with the woman beside him.
Jaejoong saw him coming down the road and his face lit up. “Yunho! You finally came! Let me introduce you to my fiancée, Minjee.” The look on his face as he looked down at Minjee was utterly, completely, filled with love and happiness.
He said to Yunho, “You’ll come to our wedding, right?” His hand stretched out to Yunho, holding a beautifully engraved wedding invitation.
Yunho’s eyes snapped open, showing him the walls of his bedroom. Tears, once again, began to overflow from his eyes, as they’ve had for months. He sat up, wiping his tears away. This process was nothing new to him, he’d been doing it ever since he first met Minjee and saw how in love she and Jaejoong were.
He laughed bitterly. Minjee was a lovely woman, both in face and personality. He wouldn’t begrudge her for making Jaejoong fall in love with her. The only thing he regretted was letting the chance of being with Jaejoong slip by him so many years ago. It was too late now, as today was the day he dreaded for months. It was Jaejoong’s and Minjee’s wedding day.
He should have declined to go. But he couldn’t stand making Jaejoong, his best friend, his childhood friend, his one true love, disappointed. He would rather withstand his own heartbreak than make Jaejoong sad.
He got out of bed, and started to get ready for the day, the day he was sure would break him.

Hours later, in a stunningly decorated church, he saw Jaejoong, dressed in a suit tailored just for him. He was welcoming guests, and his face was glowing with joy. Yunho walked up to him, and said softly, “Congratulations, Jaejoong.”
“You came, Yunho!” exclaimed Jaejoong. His face lit up even more.
Yunho chuckled. “Of course I would come. Today’s my best friend’s wedding day. How could I not come and be best man?” What he didn’t mention though, was just how much he wished he didn’t have to come.
Yunho looked around. “Where’s your wife-to-be?”
Jaejoong pouted. “She’s still in the dressing room. I wanted to see her, but they wouldn’t let me in. They were talking about something like bad luck.”
At Jaejoong’s disgruntled face, Yunho felt his façade slip, just a little bit. “Well, you know what they say. It’s bad luck to see the bride before she comes down the aisle.”
“What are you talking about? I’ve seen her for practically every day before today. If it’s bad luck to see the bride beforehand, then how would the male population get married?”
Yunho laughed. He could hear a slight note of hysteria and hoped Jaejoong, in his happiness, wouldn’t. This conversation was straining his defenses. “It’s bad luck if you see her today, dummy.”
“Oh, I see!” Jaejoong laughed. Yunho laughed with him, thinking that this was the typical Jaejoong, the Jaejoong that sometimes had a hard time understanding things. He hoped Minjee knew about this side of him and was indulgent of it.
“Well… I see that there are more guests you have to greet,” said Yunho. “I’ll go find myself a seat and wait for the ceremony to start so I can be your best man.” He smiled down at Jaejoong, engraving the happy face onto his memory, where it would stay forever.
Jaejoong sighed. “This is getting a bit tedious. I didn’t think that my mom invited so many people.” He looked into Yunho’s eyes and said, sincerely, “Thank you for coming, Yunho, and agreeing to be my best man. I really mean it. If it wasn’t going to be you standing behind me as best man, I think that I would’ve have felt incomplete, somehow.”
Yunho felt his hands clench into fists. Did Jaejoong have any idea what those words meant to him? He forced a smile, a crooked smile, onto his face. “It’s no problem. I would’ve been insulted if you weren’t going to ask me to be best man. Now, go finish talking to the long line of people behind me.” He squeezed Jaejoong’s shoulder in encouragement as Jaejoong’s hand brushed his in gratitude, and he walked away, leaving behind all his feelings.

The rest of the day passed in a blur. The only thing he remembered was standing behind Jaejoong and witnessing his indrawn gasp of amazement as Minjee walked down the aisle. She was gorgeously dressed in her wedding dress with flowers in her hair, and red roses in her hand.
Yunho had felt his heart clench in pain and had to bite his lip in order to force the tears back. He didn’t want to ruin Jaejoong’s day, the day that was supposed to be his happiest. So, he had put on his façade, a façade that he had perfected over the months. But inside, he felt his heart breaking into pieces as Jaejoong and Minjee said their vows and completed their union with their rings and a kiss.
He remembered going up to the happy couple and congratulating them. It took all his strength to find the words necessary to make Jaejoong even happier than he already was. Jaejoong had risen onto his toes and had kissed his cheek. He had whispered into his ear, “Thank you, Yunho. Thank you for everything you’ve done and given up for the sake of my happiness.”
Yunho had started in shock. Did Jaejoong know that he was in love with him? He had wanted to talk to him more, but Jaejoong had already begun talking to another well wisher. He shook his head. It was impossible.
He had walked away from the crowd forming around Jaejoong and Minjee, and after a whispered I love you that he was sure nobody heard, he walked outside, into the sunset, tears flowing over his cheeks.
