So our Garage Sale went pretty good... not as good as we had hoped, but whatever. It was fun hanging out with David's family, who came to help out and such.
So Sunday, about an hour before we were gonna close, we're all hanging outside, near our stuff... David, me, David's brother, his wife, their 9 year old kid, my sister Liz, and her 5 year old daughter. A guy walks up, kinda scraggly, but nice... making conversation with everyone, sees a leather backpack he wants for $5 and he left his wallet in the car so he is going to go get it. Comes back and says "aw man, can you break a $50?" David says sure, guy says "wow you did that well?", David says "no, just made sure we had money to break big bills." Guy says "man I love garage sales, can't seem to stay away from them." The second he's far enough away to not sound rude to his face, I say to David "check it." He instantly pulls it out and checks it. Stripe says "five". Guy speeding away with $45 in change and a leather backpack. Liz sees which way he went, her and brother go after him (toward the Taste of Tacoma.) Meanwhile David calls the police, after all it's a federal offense, right? Liz and brother come back, no seeing the guy at or near the Taste. Police come about two hours later, take the fake $50, description of the guy, tell us we're pretty much not getting our money or anything back unless the guy does this as a hobby and gets caught later.
WHOLE FREAKING PROFIT ON THE GARAGE SALE, GONE! I can't sleep, furious at stupid thieves. David gets a phone call last night while we were all in bed from the cops... guy was REALLY stupid, tried to pass another one at the Papa Murphys up the road and with our description of the guy and car, they caught the freakin moron in the parking lot.
First of all... how the HELL could you steal period, much less steal from a place with kids running around and nice people?!?!?
Second... how moronic do you need to be to try and pass another fake about one minute from where you passed one hours earlier?!?!
