My darling Ef-bomb:

Snerks back at the military based fiction. You must have noticed some of the phrases I purloined -- although I held back from using my other favourite - "goatfuck". If Team Sixteen were there Jesse would never have gotten left behind.

As for what the Vets went through...I'm not sure if it was even specific to Nam. I think it was more because the mentality in the world was changing, when the tide was more towards "peaceful resolution", that the Nam vets received such shoddy treatment.

So glad you love Nick as much as I do. I think I've confused readers with him, because he seems to morph into different beings on a dime, but that's been my experience with people on the verge of depression and mental illness. You could have a happy smiling very stable person and next thing you know he's freaking out because he can't decide what clothes to wear. The fact that Nick is so loveable even though he's capable of so many dark emotions kind of mirrors our boys, and their struggle for stability after experiencing trauma as children.

As for Ennis' D-day, that's a phrase well coined! He's fought a war, himself, hasn't he? And now he's going to push forward and not leave his man behind!

You so good. You really are my XO. :) Em
