In Canon, this prominent character was shown at the very beginning, when he was still naïve in terms of relationships and ‘love’. But as the story itself does progress, it gives hints which describe him as a 15 year-old boy, living with his alcoholic mother. He also has a younger sister, but it appears that she lives in another household; possibly with the separated father. In terms of family and values, he’s clearly not had much of the ideal parental guidance to help him get by socially. You’ll see why, with in-depth progression of the background.
When the story first starts out, Makoto himself is narrating the beginning, where his crush at the time (being Kotonoha) always takes the same morning subway train he does. As the days pass by, he begins to cast curious glances her way. At first, it’s a simple and innocent liking he harbors for her, but then it becomes an undoubted crush. At the time, there was a small rumor going around depicting that, if you take a picture of the one you really like and set it as the phone’s background, you will be together with that person three weeks later. Out of said curiosity, he does exactly that, in the hopes of one day going out with her.
At the same morning, his best friend, Sekai sees the picture and immediately offers to hook them up together. To neither teen’s knowledge, this was exactly the turning point of what was once thought to be a perfect get-together.
In that very morning, Sekai presents Itou with a picture she’d just taken of herself and Kotonoha, claiming that they’d just become instant best friends. With her help, Makoto is able to ask Kotonoha out, though they are both clearly inexperienced and naïve with the concept of a ‘relationship’. Strangely, this is the same time Sekai realizes that her own feelings for Makoto aren’t just derived out of a simple friendship. Despite so, she tries to keep it to herself, and plays the role of Makoto’s ‘relationship’ advisor, so to speak.
When she begins to see that Makoto was somewhat losing interest in the fidelity he had with Kotonoha, she is emotionally torn in two. Out of weakness for her feelings towards him, they secretly begin a strongly passionate affair. Regardless of Kotonoha’s heartbreaking knowledge of the two, Makoto had managed to distance himself away from her.
Things were seemingly going perfect for the two of them; their relationship appeared to be flourishing and completely free of Kotonoha’s image. But, like any dramatic, inexperienced love affair, Itou was later sweetened into sleeping with Sekai’s best friend. When she finds out, she is infuriated and confronts him with it. Both realize the pressure between them had gone higher the moment Sekai would later on walk into the classroom and announce her pregnancy to Makoto. Baffled and completely in denial, Makoto begins to make excuses and possible explanations. But it was clear that he was the only one she’d ever slept with. Refusing to take the responsibility in his own hands, the two gather great tension within the relationship. During that time, he will have slept with at least 10 of the girls in the high school in just a short period of time. When they all learn of his refusal to take accountability of the pregnant Sekai, they begin to ostracize him (going as far as to block out his number from their phones).
This is when he begins to reflect on his actions, and take them into consideration; he begins his breakdown and basks into self-pity and hopelessness. Out of a whim, he begins to think about Kotonoha, and then sees her that very moment later. The emotional rubble from the past weeks spill, and he tearfully begins to express his sorrow for her, and what he’s done. Upon realizing that Makoto was now inclining back to Kotonoha, Sekai is beyond enraged-to the point of having it impair her better judgment. Unable to keep in the pent-up hatred and seething rage she feels for Makoto, she catches him at his weakest guard and ends his life by stabbing him repeatedly and mercilessly.
[Personality]
Makoto is a simple and laid-back student of first year class. To his peers, he is fairly nice, considerate, and an overall lively guy-“The boy next door” is the easiest term to put it. Unfortunately, beneath his casual ‘outside’ character underlies a much deeper, somewhat darker disposition; something, when dampened with the affairs of misguided love, infatuation and lust, would someday flourish direly and lead him to a path of self-destruction.
This one weakness (quite literally) began with his teenage hormones. The more he became absorbed in the aspect of infatuation and the social temptation of his peers, the more corrupted and irrational he started to become, in terms of using what he had: looks. In addition, the more girls he would succumb to, the deeper he would spiral into his self-derived lies, faithlessness, and deceit. He would stop caring altogether for-not only other’s feelings and thoughts-but for the consequences later to arise from his own actions. When he cheated on Kotonoha, he did express a bit of guilt-but at the same time, he refused to tell her that he was cheating, possibly for his self-preservation and the general refusal to tell her face-to-face. At the time, he had claimed that he could not tell her, because ‘he did not want to upset her’. Of course, when she did find out a short while later, it appeared that he no longer cared for whether she knew or not. Because of this, his excuse was quite questionable at the time.
Furthermore, Makoto is quick to obsess with girls and romance, but he completely lacks the capability or will to commit himself to a single relationship. Also, he repeatedly fails to take responsibility for his own errors and actions, and puts his own needs above anyone else’s. A highlight to this point is when Sekai claims she is pregnant with his child. Blatantly, he refuses to take any form of responsibility, and instead tries to put his distance as far away from her as possible, while coming up with fabrications of how unfair she was to him by becoming pregnant.
All in all, Makoto can be best described as a coward and self-absorbed individual. Clearly, when he begins to realize everything was falling apart around him, and was being forced into situations he could have never imagined he could be in, he would reflect back on what he’d done and show considerable emotional guilt. When he’d finally realized that everything he’s done was his own fault, it was too late by then to change anything. In the end, he may have died, but in those three weeks, he and Kotonoha had been officially…together. Too bad it was too late.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Um....sleeping with girls.
Some bit of a smooth-talker. : )
[Affection]
Wellll... My Itou seems a little contemplative of his past mistakes. He's sticking to monogamy, and any product that comes from being a good boy is pretty go-gettable! >3 Yes, kissing and sexy time are allowed, because Itou is a hormonal teenager, after all.
[Fighting]
If he survives a week without getting at least getting a slap on the wrist, then I must be munning him wrong. Anyone is definitely free to beat him around, because he deserves that much! (of course, ya gotta do it for a reason, hmm? Like, maybe if he tells you that he's nearly 'impregnated' someone in the past, or he was a huuuge player. :| )
Oh, and... He can't really fight...but he is a boy, so I'll just say 'punk fighting'.
I dare you to TRY and take a cheat shot at him!
[Other Permissions]
Err...Forth wall is a bit questionable at first (depends), but mind-reading is no problem at all. But, just to be warned, intruders. :| Itou doesn't think clean thoughts half the time. Especially if you're a girl.
Kotohana, though... He's a bit scared of. But in a good way, in that he wants to make himself presentable to her! 8D No dirty thoughts towards her, uh-uh! After all, he's gotta make up for countless little evils he's done to her in the past. Like back-stabbing, ignoring, cheating, ditching, blaming, framing, breaking trust...Just to name a few.
In short, he's her 'protector' now, so to speak. He doesn't believe he deserves to be intimate with her in anyway. guiltyguiltyguilty!
[Other Facts]
Itou is obviously a very compensative character now, so that he wouldn't get the burden of being stabbed again! :> He won't just up with a girl unless it's absolutely written in the stars. LAWL like that'll happen, eh? Well, prove him otherwise!
Furthermore, Itou is a nice guy in general. He'll try to help with anything anyone asks of him; or even if you don't ask! He's also a very passive and forgiving person by nature. As long as you treat him as a friend, and not a smex object, he'll go a long way with you! This also applies with being somewhat of an understanding person and good listener. Rest easy knowing that Makoto is not an automated voice machine, and will provide you with advice/suggestions with almost any situation. Especially those involving relationships and what not.
After all, experience was his best teacher.
Finally, his little PTSD. Yes, he's very much afflicted with the event of being stabbed like a rag doll... very much in that he'll avoid serious aggression, kitchen cutlery, conflicts and overall yandere people . If you can help him find a meaning to his coming here, and help him through his little sufferings, misgivings and past pain - even if you just listen to his stories and experiences - he might be internally and emotionally healed again.
[OOC: OH. And this little puppet will probably be involved with lots of life/death situations! 8D We all know how dramatica is yummy~]
