It's early evening when he arrives, the sun is still setting and the traffic was dying down a little when ti still mattered. He watches as the cab he called to take him leaves before facing the door and knocking twice

As far as William is concerned, this is the best time of day to be working outside, and so, when Neal knocks, that's where he is. Working out in the backyard, taking care of his garden. It's nothing particularly nice, and just about everything there is easy to take care of, but he enjoys having it there. And it's something to keep him occupied when he has nothing to fix.
He hears the car pull up and leave again -- there's enough distance between him and his neighbors that he can be sure it's in his drive, not somebody else's -- but he hasn't been expecting anyone, and he assumes that it's just gotten lost and is turning around.
The knock, then, comes as surprise, and he calls out as pushes himself to his feet, "Back here!" He moves to the table, grabbing the towel off of it to wipe the dirt off his hands, before starting around the side of the house to see who it is.
he really should have known that William would be at the back at this hour, he just didn't think about it. Upon hearing him though, he's quick to leave his things at the door and start heading to the side.
So he'll probably meet him half way with a bright smile. "Hope you don't mind me dropping in," he says with a bright smile. "I had the time."
He's fairly certain William won't have a problem with it but things happen, people have lives and he's not quite as good as Alex ant squeezing himself into people's lives unexpectedly. he's much better at leaving them that way.
He breaks into a bright smile when he sees who it is, and Neal would probably be getting a hug if it weren't for the dirt. "Of course not," he answers warmly, leading Neal back around towards the front. "It's good to see you."
He opens the door, taking stock of the bags as he does. "You'll be staying for a while?" he asks, pleased at the prospect. He doesn't mind brief visits, of course, but it's always nice to have him here for more than a couple of days.
Neal appreciates the consideration. he will probably get a long hug when the get inside and he cleans up though, because it is William and William deserves affection.
"Yep." He smiles proudly. "It's been too long and, like I said, I had the time." He brings the bags inside and sets them out of the way.
"Oh, I brought you something too. Fun toys from the FBI." Yes, he may or may not steal some of the gadgets fro9m the FBI to bring to William, so what?
He laughs, locking the door behind them. "You always do bring the best gifts. Give me fifteen minutes to clean up and then I'm all yours for the night. There's hot coffee in the kitchen if you want any, and if you want anything you can't find, just yell."
"I'm holding you to that," he says, slipping out of his coat and removing his hat. "Fifteen minutes and that's it."
Laughing, he grins over at him. "Oh c'mon, if I can't find it, that means i have the excuse to go look around and I'm not about to pass that up."
Closing the distance between them, he presses a quick kiss to William's cheek before starting towards the kitchen. "Go, get clean so I can aay hello for real."
"You can set a timer if you'd like," he offers with a grin. "There should be one in the kitchen."
He shrugs, looking amused. "All right, have it your way. Though I don't know what you think you're going to find, I don't think much has changed since the last time you were here."
He laughs, and heads off to do that as instructed. Fifteen minutes later, as promised, he makes his way back out, stopping to check the living room for Neal and, if he doesn't find him there, heading into the kitchen.
He rolls his eyes. "As if I'd actually need a timer. I'm almost offended by that."
"But things have changed," he counters. "There's always something new to explore, even in familiar places. Nothing ever stays the same."
Neal will be settled in the living room, occupying a corner of the couch with a cup of coffee and a content expression on his face. He looks up when William appears, setting down the coffee and going to him. He puts his wraps him up in a warm hug and leaves another kiss because he can.
He isn't complaining, far from it. The hug is returned with warm enthusiasm and Neal is going to be held there for a bit. When William finally does let go of him, he catches hold of his wrist, tugging him back towards the couch.
He isn't the only one who's been missed, after all.
"What's new? Anything interesting?" he asks, after they've settled into the couch.
Honestly, he could have probably been happy just standing there holding him. It felt so good, so familiar. It pulls a content smile on his face and draws his eyes closed. The couch is good to9o though and in the end, it does mean he still gets him, so that's all that matters.
He settles in next to William, eyes closing in contentment as he does so. "Nothing interesting," he informs. "Well, nothing more interesting than normal. Running around, getting put in danger. Getting out of danger. The usual."
he opens his eyes and studies William for a moment. He doesn't say anything, just watches him, studies the way the light reflects across his face, the expression, everything.
