PicturePersonality:
Basil can shift between moods rapidly and without much prior warning. For example, when he first appears in the movie he is full of vigor and enthusiasm because he thinks he’s found a tremendous clue in the caper he’s currently investigating however after testing the theory he instantly becomes melancholy and discouraged. A later example occurs when he is led into a trap. Feeling considerably terrible for having fallen for such a thing he almost seems to shut completely down. He barely reacts to what’s being said to him, until he’s given an idea of how they might escape this folly. In short, he has a dynamic personally and a full range of emotions.
Basil tends to get absorbed in his work and does not like to be interrupted in the meantime regardless of whether that person has something valuable to contribute or not. He’s quite intelligent and isn’t always the best as relating to others. He can also have a bit of a temper when things go awry sometimes leading to spouting things that he later regrets when he unwittingly hurts another’s feelings. Then he can be rather apologetic, and almost sheepish as he tries to smooth things over. Basil doesn’t mean to intentionally make others feel poorly about themselves or their actions he just reacts first on occasion and rethinks it later.
He can be a perfect English gentleman when dealing with clients as evidenced at the end of the movie when a new client shows up on his doorstep. This had not been true in Olivia’s case, her age having played a considerable factor. Since she was a child, he failed to take her seriously. Basil can also be smug when it feels like all the pieces are falling into place. There is nothing he enjoys more than outwitting felons. When in disguise he gets into his roles, playing the parts flawlessly. Despite his eccentric behavior he is a most capable and cunning investigator.

“Hell-lo, what do we have here?” [The video feed records a very unusual angle. The communicator was aimed skyward, and it looks as if a pair of tiny feet are standing on top of it just barely visible. It’s about to get more bizarre. Something that looks like a giant albeit wavey-looking eye is the next thing the feed catches. It’s difficult to make out any of the person’s facial features]
A variety of dials.. [Some mumbling to himself] .. This prominent rectangular area.. [More mutterings] Incredible. This doesn’t look like.. anything I’ve seen before. [ The voice sounds genuinely surprised but intrigued]
Hm- I wonder.. [ Pulls his magnifying glass out of the way, revealing the visage of a mouse] Just.. what is this contraption intended for?

“Stay back you fiends!” Basil hissed prepared to regrettably sacrifice his violin for the cause of his own self preservation. Just as he was about to swing the instrument in a downward arc he found himself unable to see much of anything. A pervasive and inescapable darkness was swallowing anything it came in contact with, save for the dark creatures with the glowing pairs of eyes. Drawing in a sharp breath he couldn’t help but think this could truly be the end. How could one fight an oncoming horde, much less an oncoming horde in complete and total darkness. What was worse is that he did not know the state of his faithful friend and companion. Closing his eyes tightly he seethed. If they did anything to the doctor he could never forgive himself. It was his fault that his fellow mouse had decided to become his assistant. Basil had led him into this mess, and it was up to him to get him out of it. His small ears twitched slightly. If he couldn’t see those creatures then surely it stood to reason that he’d be able to hear them, but there was nothing.
Opening his eyes, it was more than a little shocking to find himself having been completed transported from one location to a similar but entirely different one. “Dawson! Dawson, where are you good fellow?!”. He furtively looked around for any trace of the other mouse. “Now isn’t the time to go wandering off on your own!”. His tone bared traces of anger however it was only masking his fear. It swiftly became apparent that the other had not appeared here, or at least not in the immediate vicinity. Basil was left with many questions and no answers.
“Confound it all!” He spat, not bothering to hold back his frustration. “If I had only--”
His statement was cut short when a peculiar looking creature tottered over to him. “Kupo~”. He looked over to it briefly before promptly ignoring it far too upset to focus on the additional distraction or oddity. Wringing his free hand he was left to ponder the fate of the other mouse. The moogle tried to interject more than once but Basil wouldn’t give it a chance to speak, not before getting his initial outburst out of the way.
