Chapter one'
Chapter two The next day, the sun shone as brightly as Yuki had ever seen it. The sunshine seemed different to her somehow. It seemed to make everything brighter than she remembered.
The sunshine also meant that she would be able to go see Papa and her uncles working at their rehearsal. When it was raining, Yuki quickly lost interest because she was so cold, but now that it wasn’t raining she could hardly wait to see what a real rehearsal looked like.
That day also meant that it was the first day of Arashi’s Hawaii concerts. In only a few hours, fangirls from all over would come to the large field and see the special anniversary Hawaii concert.
As soon as Yuki and Papa got to the stage, they were immediately met with a cameraman. It caught Yuki off-guard and she quickly hid behind Papa’s legs so she wouldn’t be seen. Papa noticed this and knelt down to her. “I know I’ve told you before to avoid being seen on camera,” he said quietly so the camera wouldn’t hear him. “But from now on, it’s different. You are allowed to be filmed now, but if you don’t like it you need to tell me. Are you okay with being filmed, Yuki?”
Yuki, who was now sucking on her thumb (Papa called it a nervous habit of hers that needed to be broken), looked between her father and the cameraman with the huge camera on his shoulder before she looked back and nodded to Papa.
Even though Yuki gave her okay, she still found herself hanging out Uncle Jun as he watched and supervised off-stage. It was amazing how Uncle Jun could create all of this, Yuki thought as she watched. She had never seen him work that hard before.
During one part, when Arashi was practicing for ‘Season’, a camera came up to Yuki as she sat on the stage watching the pictures moving on the large moving screen. “Yuki-san?” the cameraman asked. “What do you think of the rehearsal? Do you like it?”
Yuki was surprised at the camera in front of her, so instead of looking at that she looked at the man behind the camera. She knew him. She had known him her entire life, so looking at him made her relax.
“I like it,” Yuki said, answering his question.
“Do you think this will be a fun concert?” the man asked.
Yuki nodded. “It looks fun. This is the first Arashi concert I’ve ever been to.”
“Are you excited?”
“Yes!” Yuki smiled. “I can’t wait to watch tonight.”
Before long, the rehearsals were over and it was time for Arashi to get ready for their concert in less than four hours. When everyone was ready to start heading back to the hotel, Papa and Yuki were lead to the same trailer everyone had been to the day before. Everyone in Arashi sat down on the couch while a cameraman filmed them. Uncle Jun stood up and pulled off a box from the table.
“Since this is Yuki-chan’s first Arashi concert,” Uncle Jun began. “We decided together that we wanted to do something special.”
“Ehh,” Papa smiled as he playfully shook his daughter. “What is it? What is it?”
Uncle Jun handed Yuki the big white box with bright red lettering on it. “What does it say?” Yuki asked her papa.
“You tell me,” Papa said. “You’re practicing hiragana, right? What does it say?”
Yuki looked at the hiragana again and read each character slowly with her finger tracing them. “Yu-ki ni. To Yuki!”
“Keep going!”
“A-na-ta-no-sa-i-sho-no-Arashi-no…. Papa what is that?”
“Ko-n-sa-to.”
“A-na-ta-no-sa-i-sho-no-Arashi-no-konsato-o-me-de-tou. A-na-ta-no-o-ji-ka-ra.”
“So what does it say?”
“To Yuki. Congratulations on your first Arashi concert! From your uncles.”
“Yay!” Everyone cheered. “Open it! Open it!”
Yuki quickly opened up the box and pulled the bright red dress out. It was red with a high waist, cami straps to hold it up, and had beautiful white flowers decorating it. It even had two strings tied in a bow on the front. Yuki had never seen a more beautiful dress. She looked up at everyone. “Is this really for me?”
“It is!” Aiba-shi smiled back. “This is for you to wear to the concert tonight!”
Yuki held the dress close and imagined just how it would fit on her. “Arigatou gozaimasu!”
--
Yuki would get to watch the concert with her Aunt Mai who had flown out from Tokyo to watch the special concert with her. Once Yuki was dressed in her beautiful red dress, they met up with Arashi right before they were to go in their helicopter for their amazing entrance. Everyone looked so handsome that Yuki didn’t want to leave them.
“Ah!” Uncle Nino cried when he saw her. “Look at the beautiful princess that has come to grace our presence!”
“Piggyback!” Yuki exclaimed holding out her arms. On cue, Uncle Nino knelt down and lifted Yuki onto his back and bounced her a few times making her laugh.
“You guys spoil her too much,” Papa told him.
“That’s the idea!” Uncle Jun smiled.
Suddenly Uncle Nino stopped bouncing, wincing as he handed the girl off to Uncle Satoshi. “Are you okay?” Uncle Satoshi asked when he saw Uncle Nino stretch his back a bit.
Uncle Nino nodded. “I’m good. Are they ready for us?”
“We got one minute.”
Yuki was passed off to Aiba-shi, who bounced her a few times before he hugged her close. “Have fun, okay?” he asked.
“I will!” Yuki smiled before she leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Her action caught both her and her uncle off-guard, but no one said anything before Yuki leaned over to be held by her papa. “Have fun, Papa!” Then she leaned forward and kissed his cheek as well before Yuki got a kiss of her own.
“Okay, let’s go Yuki-chan!” Aunt Mai said as she grabbed her nieces’ hand. “We have to go or we’ll be late!”
The concert venue was packed by the time they got there, but they managed to get good places to stand and watch, and once some fangirls saw that a little girl was there trying to see some even gave up their places to let her get closer. Yuki made sure to thank everyone around her when they did that.
When the concert started, everyone screamed and got so excited that Yuki couldn’t help but get excited with them. Seeing her papa and her uncles dancing and singing and having fun made the little girl so happy, and she could feel everyone’s happiness around her the more Arashi sang and showed their love towards the fans.
With every song, Yuki couldn’t help but sing along. When ‘My Girl’ and ‘Everything’ began to play with the Hawaiian instruments, everyone swayed and sang along with Arashi on stage. After their segment had ended and the video on the screen began to play, Yuki gasped. “Aunt Mai!” she exclaimed. “I got to see this part during rehearsal! Papa and everyone will come out and jump up out of the floor before they sing ‘Monster’! It was so much fun to watch! I wanted to try it too, but Papa wouldn’t let me.”
“That sounds like fun!” Aunt Mai smiled. “When you’re a little older, I bet Papa will let you.”
Suddenly, the bells began to toll. Everyone got excited again as the lights changed and fire began to come out of the stage. Yuki bounced up and down, excited for the jumping from the stage. Fire came out, the spotlight turned on, and-
“Eh?” Yuki asked when no one jumped up. Instead, they had all come out slowly (‘slide up’ was the term Uncle Jun used). Yuki thought maybe they decided to do something extra instead, but when the music began and nothing new happened, Yuki was really confused. She tugged on her aunt’s shirt gently. “Aunt Mai, do you think something bad happened?”
“I don’t know,” Aunt Mai answered. “You can ask Papa after the concert if you like.”
The rest of the concert continued on just as smoothly as the first half. Yuki soon forgot about the change
and was back to dancing and singing along. When the members started to express their feelings at the end, it made everyone cry seeing just how much everyone else was crying.
The concert ended before everyone knew it, and Yuki waved fiercely as she saw the five men she loved more in the whole world fly away in their helicopter as everyone sang along to ‘A-RA-SHI’. Yuki found it amazing how everyone seemed to love Arashi as much as she did.
As soon as they were able to get out, Yuki and Aunt Mai met Papa and everyone else back at the hotel lobby. When Yuki saw Papa, she ran into his arms and he held her tightly. “Did you like the concert?” Papa smiled.
Yuki nodded. “It was so much fun! The water sprayers and the fire and the dancing and did you see how the fans were smiling and dancing! It was so much fun! And the fireworks were so pretty! Are you going to do them again tomorrow?”
“We hope so,” Uncle Jun answered. “I’m so glad you had fun, Yuki-chan.”
“I’m so happy you liked it!” Aiba-shi beamed back at her. “It was so much fun, but I’m worn out!”
Yuki looked around and noticed for the first time that two of her uncles were missing. “Where’s Uncle Nino and Uncle Satoshi?”
Everyone looked at each other and frowned. “Uncle Nino hurt his back during the concert,” Papa answered. “He and Uncle Satoshi went to the hospital to have him checked out.”
Immediately, Yuki thought of how Uncle Nino had acted right before the concert and how he had seemed to be stretching his back after giving her a piggyback ride. “Is he okay?” she asked softly, afraid that she may have hurt him.
Papa must have known immediately what she was thinking because he smiled and kissed her cheek. “He’s going to be just fine,” he assured her. “Uncle Nino’s always had a bad back. Sometimes, his back just slips and he has to go get it back in place. You didn’t do anything to hurt him, I promise.”
Even Aiba-shi came and ruffled the little girl’s hair. “Uncle Nino’s a strong guy, ne?” he smiled, making Yuki feel better instantly. “Now, are you hungry Yuki-chan?”
Yuki nodded. “I’m hungry!”
“Then let’s go get something!”
When Yuki looked back at her papa, she saw the same sad look in his eyes again when he looked at Aiba-shi. But also, a look of happiness. How can someone be happy and sad at the same time? she wondered.
However, she soon forgot all about it as they headed towards the hotel restaurant to pick up some congratulatory ice cream and pizza.
--
The next day, Yuki decided to stay back at the hotel with Uncle Nino. He had slipped a disc, like everyone thought the day before, so the doctor recommended that he stay at the hotel during rehearsal to rest as best as he could. Uncle Nino almost didn’t want to follow the doctor’s orders, but Uncle Satoshi all but forced him to stay. “If you have another accident during the concert, it could be a lot worse!” he said before he and the other members left.
During their time alone, Uncle Nino and Yuki decided to have a nice relaxing sit in the hotel hot tub next to the swimming pool. Yuki sat in her bright red and pink one-piece suit while Uncle Nino sat in his black swim trunks and Arashi staff t-shirt, and as soon as they were in the warm water Yuki saw that Uncle Nino felt better almost instantly.
“Uncle Nino? Did I hurt you?” Yuki asked.
Uncle Nino looked up in surprise. “Eh?” he asked before shaking his head. “No! Of course not Yuki! My back threw out because of me, not because of you.”
Yuki still felt guilty. “Still-“
“Okay, so tell me!” Uncle Nino said sitting up. “How is our little mission going? Any progress?”
Yuki forgot all about Uncle Nino’s back as she began to tell him all about what she had observed between her father and her favorite uncle. When she told him about how Papa’s eyes seemed to look sad, Uncle Nino frowned. “Something happened between Sho-chan and Aiba-chan,” he said. “Something that obviously Sho-chan doesn’t want to talk about… but what is it?”
“Do you think Papa and Aiba-shi had a fight when they were in Hawaii?” Yuki suggested.
Uncle Nino shook his head. “No, it can’t be that. Sho-chan can get upset sometimes, but never at Aiba-chan. And even if they did, they would have made up long before now. It has to be something more than that.”
“Like what?”
“That’s what I’m going to figure out. We’ll get to the bottom of this, Yuki-chan. Before we leave Hawaii, this mystery will be solved!”
