My pleasure. It's refreshing to see another man of ambition here.
Unfortunately, currying favour with the rest of this lot... it's a bit more difficult. You won't be able to win their hearts and minds. It's better to seize control first, in my experience. They'll never accept you otherwise.
Yeah, but at least some of the people have to like you. Do you know the difference between a revolution and a rebellion? A revolution can happen with the right leaders helping people to take a step forward into a new future. A rebellion is against the leaders and always includes bloodshed. I can't afford a rebellion.
Besides, I'm a servant of the people. I want them to realize that they need my help, not to force it on them.
But you're dealing with a very stubborn populace here. You and I know that they need strong, just leadership that isn't afraid to do what must be done to improve the Barge. That's our lot as public servants, after all.
But they'll never realise it. Right now, there's no reason for them to lift the veil and see what a failure this system is.
Not unless there's an event or something to make them see. But who knows when that'll happen.
Show them the dangers sitting right under their noses.
Nobody dies here, not permanently. This has created a very... unnatural environment, a disconnect from reality. If we shatter the illusion of invincibility, people will begin to listen. They'll want answers, leadership.

Are people always like this?

Unfortunately, yes. You'll find that few here take grave matters seriously.
