Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've updated. I've been sick and my schedule's been hectic.
So I'm currently in the killer of Com classes. Com 295. If I misspell a proper noun I fail, not just the assignment, the entire course (which mind you is sorta understandable). If I misspell a single word (and that includes forgetting to capitalize words) I fail the assignment... and oh yeah. All the assignments are done in class, on computers where spell check is disabled. It's gonna be a greaaaaaaaaaaat class... >_<....... On the bright side I only need a C to pass the class and certify for my major. My first graded assignment isn't until wednesday and of the three assignments we've done so far I would have only failed two of them... which is about average. But to keep from being such a doomsayer I will say that I have already learned a TON from this class.
I'm aslo taking Geology 101 which is boring as all heck. It's stuff we've been learning since elementary school, plate tectonics, pangea, what natural forces sculpt rocks and what not... It should be easy enough to do well in that class as long as I can manage to stay awake through the lectures.
ironically enough my lab section is 15 people, and except for one guy the entire section is female, all blonde, and there's three other Laurens. How creepy can it get?!
My History/Asian History 272 class, I thought would be interesting but it's turning out to be fairly dissapointing. It's all basic stuff, the myths, Islam and a tiny section on the Ottoman and Roman empires. (It's Middle East history). My professor, has a strong Catholic religion bias, and it comes out loud an clear. I'm not sure why he chose to teach the class or live in Turkey for 6 years when even just the thought of anything relating to Muslims and other sects of Islam obviously upset him. We just touched on the subject in class and he got very very... religious I guess. Now let me just pre-empt this statement by saying I have nothing against religion, I just have issues when people go over the deep end with it like some of the girls in my dorm, my aunts and my new professor, and the only thing they seem to be able to see is 'their religion' and their views on what is right to the point of basically calling everyone else a backwards primitive... eh, well, primitive's not the right word, but I can't place my finger on what the right word is at the moment.
Japanese is always cool. The two sections combined this semester, however in a class of almost thirty there's less than 10 from my section, so now I feel bad that I don't know everyone's names. And going with 'hey you' all the time is pretty rude. I'm also taking a conversation class and it's really fun. We got to play this card game, it was kinda like memory. The TA would read a proverb and you had to find the first charecter and try and grab it before anyone else. I tied with Hosik-san for second place. There are some pretty bizzarre Japanese proverbs.
Other than those four classes I'm also taking a mythology class. I'm not sure what to think of it. My teacher has been gone on a confrence in Prague since the end of the first week of class so we've been watching Troy, the new one, and it's just not all that exciting. My profesor has a really monotone voice. She obviously likes the subject and knows a lot about it, but I don't think she likes teaching. She seems to be very disinterested in actually teaching us.
Anime club hasn't started and there was only one semi-emergency meeting for TBS where we discussed moving meetings to the same time and day as Anime club, which apparently I was the only one who had an issue with, so hopefully the brothers will have an issue with it and we'll go back to having meeting times on mondays or tuesdays. I don't want to lose my Anime Club, especially since I barely got to go at all last semester.
Applied to get a job at the Bookie today so hopefully something good will come of that because I really need to save up some money. Speaking of which I still need to get a hold of Prof. Gerber to ask about getting a letter of reccommendation and getting her to sign off on my Ssu-ma Ch'ien paper for my writing portfolio. And I also need to think about getting a hold of Prof. Chan for a letter of reccommendation, I'm hesistant to do that though. I was in his class first semester last year and I highly doubts he even remember who I am little own will want to write a letter of reccomendation for me... I also need to start on my essays and apparently sign up for an interview time... gah... this is all just pilling up at the same time... but I really need to take the next step towards getting it all done. Can't I just go without having to fill out a veritable mountain of paper work and hunting down 5-6 teachers that actually know who I am and my name. ugh. just ugh.
So my boredom hit new highs, or lows, depending on your opinion of me.
I was looking back through some of my old AMVs and I came across a Digimon one. It made me really really want to watch some Digimon. So that sent me on a search to find some, and let me tell you I eventually hit the jackpot. I found three versions of both Digimon Adventure, and Digimon Adventure 02. RAW, English dub, and the Philipino(sp?) version of the English dub... So after attempting to understand more than every 10th word of the RAW I gave up on it for a couple of years at least. I just wanted to see what the heck the Philipino version was... it was bizzarre... They just sounded all wrong...
and here comes the uber dork part.
I have now downloaded all of Digimon Adventure, and am halfway through downloading the last ten episodes of Digimon Adventure 02... I also got a hold of the Japanese w/english subs version of the first three movies. It was really interesting to see how different the english version was from the original. Especially the third movie. The English version left out half the plot. I completely left out the reason why the new digidestined came to America to fight. It left out the fact that the original digidestined were even in the movie and that they had been kidnapped by Cocomon and we being reverse aged... so yeah, all weekend I've been watching Digimon... well not all weekend. The fansubbers finally finished Kyou Kara Maou, so I took a break from Digimon to FINALLY watch the last four episodes! I've been waiting on those for almost a year now... It's such a good series, I'm kinda sad to see it end. At least it wasn't a real abrupt ending like Detective Academy Q.
Sarah's borrowing Prince of Tennis, so hopefully she'll like it.
Oh, I also read some Death Note Scanlations, and the beging was awesome! I loved it and then it got to a spot where I thought it was going to end only it didn't and after reading maybe only two or three more chapters after that issue concluded I decided that it really should have ended there. I just don't like the new, er, twist you could say, that it's taken. And I really don't like the two new charecter's that have been introduced. Why must all the things I really like screw up.
Okay... I think it's time for an episode of Scrubs and then bed.
