Thanks to you all

My thanks to all of you who sent me comments regarding my sister's death.

Around April 19 or so, my sister thought she had pneumonia and went in to have it checked. My sister and her family didn't have health insurance and rarely went to the doctor. anyway, in the course of the medical visit, I presume an X-ray was called for and in the films they found a large mass in the upper lobe of one of donna's lungs. Upon further checking, a tumor was found in the brain and something else was found in a gland. For those of you who know how cancer works, those signs were very ominous. Lung cancer and advanced at that. Donna had chemo on a Thursday and then another round on April 30. That night, my sister and her husband were watching tv. Michael got left the room for some reason and when he returned a few minutes later, Donna was gray and unconscious. The EMTs were called and they took her to the local hospital (which is smaller than most strip malls) where the entubated her and not being aable to revive her sent her to another hospital where she slipped into a coma and finally died between the hours of 6 and 7 pm on May 1st.

My sister was cremated and her church gave her a beautiful memorial.

I was still in shcok last week, but gradually I started to assimilate the information I had received about Donna's illness. Donna had advanced lung cancer. Usually when it spreads to other organs, it's toward the end stage. anyway, what I do know is that Donna would have rather left life abruptly than to have wasted away from this illness. I know that because we had both lost loved ones in both ways. I told her I would rather be able to say goodbye and have some final times with someone, while she said that she would rather not stand by helplessly while someone she loved changed in to something she didn't know. Both of us are right, neither of us are wrong...it's a personal prefernce. Donna died like she would have wanted. And Yes, it's hard on me and everyone else. She didn't keep her illness a secret much, because she didn't know about it for long.

Anyway, I grieve.

thanks again to all of you who expressed your sympathy. It is greatly appreciated.
