House

So, the house business is moving along! We narrowed it down to three houses; one that was fantastic, one that was recently renovated, and one that was simply in our price range. In the end, it was most sensible to get the one in our price range and just update the heck out of it, because the other two were much more expensive and still needed huge updates like double-paned windows, a new ceder fence, and complete yard re-hauls, along with old water heaters and such.

This one needs the kitchen redone and a medicine cabinet added to the bathroom, but that should run around $10,000 verses the $25,000 that was expected of the other two.

It's not as utterly fantastic as the 1800 square foot man-cave (Seriously, it was so obvious this was a guys house before), but it is more practical. I definitely think I'll be happier in the cheaper house verses the one with all the remodels because that one had too many windows in their bedrooms. There was no wall space to put furniture! You couldn't even put in a bed without it being above the sills. I know people put furniture in front of windows in their bedrooms all the time, but it drives me nuts.

So, it was the least whelming house on initial inspection, but I think once I get the stained carpets torn up, a medicine cabinet put in, and have a kitchen I can cook in properly, I will be very very happy with it. There are three bedrooms, so I can have a craft room, a bedroom, and a guest room. It has a dining area and a living room. There's a nice little patio on the side of the house and the shed in the back is in great condition, rivaled only by the perfect yard. It's a boring yard, but it's a good one, and it doesn't have broken glass all over it like the other two did. Not to mention the house has got great curb appeal.

Last weekend I feel in love with a little 900 square foot house with an amazing garden, but the reality was it would just be too small. I'm hoping to put a small garden in at this place so I can have a few green things to play with.

For those interested, this is the house listing. It's not quite as nice as the photos make it seem, but that's mainly in the kitchen and the bedroom walls. Neon yellow, bubble gum pink with black bible verses stenciled on the wall, and a tired beige. So, it needs a bit of a face lift, but it should be amazing when we're done and quite a bit of the work, like painting walls and ripping out the carpet so I can have wood floors, are things I can do myself.
