"limerence"
the tv is flashing, blue, pink, violet,
and my heart's crashing at the sound of your words
"i love you"
is it the truth?
and the picture on the screen is
like a skipping sunrise through the window
sending signals in waves of heat
and we pretend
for a moment, this is real
but this town is on pause
and in places like this
ignorance is bliss
still lovers' love exists
behind a mist
the eyes of those around us
just cannot seem to penetrate
hidden somewhere beneath the covers,
fingers interlocking, "lovers,"
like sturdy chains tangled,
never releasing, relaxing, breaking
four lungs are quickly expanding
imaginary planes are landing
somewhere unfamiliar, somewhere unknown
and i
am trying so hard
to find
the remote to rewind,
and i
am trying so hard
to stop
my thoughts,
to unwind,
so i
can pretend with you
hidden somewhere beneath the covers,
hearts burn brighter than the sun but
fog outside is floating, buoyant on the air
and with my fingers tangled in your hair
i know the truth is you're not there
but with a kiss i seal the myth
into my insane sphere
and it's true
the world has turned blue
and it's true
my lips are turning blue
we're trapped out in antarctica
or somewhere frozen in the dead of winter
still on pause, still standing still
still struggling to keep the thrill
but soon the cold will get to us
we'll drown our hearts in a bucket of ice
and soon our love will crack or melt
or maybe even burn
