So another tumultuous summer has withered to its end. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed for a while but in retrospect it's all come out pretty swimmingly. I basically accomplished most of the things I wanted to, even if I didn't realize it until recently. I spent a seriously minimal amount of time in Fernley which is always good, I massively hung out with massively awesome friends, I purchased and plucked a gnarly acoustic guitar thanks to Brandon Reeder, I even managed to play a show with my shitty defunct band. I got a job (ugh) but at least I was able to save up money, I met a few cool people, I got a haircut, I did a lot of shit. So all in all it's been a pretty solid summer, definitely better than last one which would rate about a 5 on a scale of 1-awesome. Summer highlights:
-Kicked in the Nuts/A-Cants show in Brandon's basement. Even though Dustin BARELY showed up (and I mean barely) and Chris moved to Texas without telling a god damned soul, the three of us still managed to pull off a decent set and I was even struck with a modicum of inspiration for future musical endeavors involving one Vince Miller. And it was tons of fun seeing the Aristicants for one last time.
-Playing ridiculous amounts of smash brothers. If a video game can define a summer (and that's not nearly as pathetic as it sounds, I swear) then that game defined this summer.
-Earning a paycheck at a place that wasn't the wigwam. Yeah, Wal-Mart = sketch BALLS but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My managers and co-workers were all pretty much decent and when I started working time flew by. Plus it was nice making more than 5.15/hr.
-Spending gnarly times with Callie and her awesome boyfriend. Of course, it was nice spending time with everyone else in all kinds of ways, but this is the first whole summer that Callie and Joe have been not dating and it's been so great to have such an awesome friend back so fully, plus her boyfriend is fucking rad.
-Gambling at the comedy club bar at the Silver Legacy with Nick, Callie, and Jeremiah until like 6 a.m. I got shitfaced for cheap (at least as far as bars go) by milking that video blackjack all damn night. And Nick was stoked to be drinking at a legal establishment years before he was legal so effortlessly.
-Rafting down the Truckee on July 4, even though I got a blazin' sunburn and tore up my shit 'cause of the god damned rocks. Oh, and almost drowning wasn't really that cool either, but other than that the trip down the river was a fuckin' BLAST.
And about a billion other gnartacular things.
It's always weird when I hit the transition points again. Going back to Oregon, coming back to Nevada, going back to Oregon. This'll be my last year in the Eug and I hope to make the best of it. It's going to be so great living with Kellen and Sam (since I practically have in part the last two years anyway) and I won't even be in a band with them for them to kick me out of! But seriously I think some amazing times are in store. Hopefully I can manage to write plenty of songs, even though I've pretty much given up hopes of starting a band in Eugene since I can't find any musicians to share my "artistic vision" (by that I mean I can't find any musicians who don't think I suck too hard at music). Also, it would be nice to be involved with a girl again since this is my last shot at the Oregon honies. We'll see, we'll see.
It's scary to think I'm going to be graduating in like 9ish months. When I have a college degree I won't have excuses for working shit jobs. But I'll probably do it anyway, fuck careers for a few more years (i'm a dope mc). It'll be nice/interesting to live in Reno full time for a while, but that goal has become shorter term than it's been in the past. I'm thinking get a good couple of years in, maybe move to P-town or something, join the Peace Corps, who fucking knows. Considering I haven't written in this in a while I think it's probably fair to end it now. MARCUS OUT!
