I'm having another Veronica Mars situation, that is leading me to write at length. And, in what may be a first for this journal, I'm focusing on two boys. And their friendship. Specifically Logan and Dick, and this scene.
TWIN PEAKS. I HAVE WATCHED AND DO LOVE TWIN PEAKS. And I could have ~sworn that we've talked about, but there's also a really good chance that I just saw you saying something about it, and thought "oh hey I love that show" and done nothing about it. There were large chunks of last year when I was really bad about doing that to my flist...
ANYWAY. TWIN PEAKS. I have only watched it once, and it was during an insomnia jag between thanksgiving and winter breaks in my first year of college, a little over 2 years ago, and I need to rewatch it and actually have fandomy thoughts, because there are at least a handful of people on my flist who I know have seen it, and I wasn't on LJ the first time I watched it. Also I should rewatch it simply because that's not the best show to rip through in a two week period, while getting maybe 3-4 hours of sleep a night...
AND OMG THE LILLY/LAURA PARALLELS. How did I not notice that before? the mindfuck of TP meets insomnia probably But yeah, their construction (and deconstruction) is super similar, in a good way. Though, I would say that Laura's place as "the perfect feminine" was far more established in life than Lilly's. BUT PERFECT TROPE INVERSION IS PERFECT.
OH AND. I know you said you're thinking of watching Psych. In s6 there is a TP tribute episode and it is actually the best thing I've ever seen. And once you've seen it, you should really look up the interviews with James Roday about it, because his adoration and respect for that show, and his total giddiness at getting to be a part of the episode is one of the most adorable things ever.
Also I asked my parents if they'd watched it when it was on, and they told me that they recorded it on tapes when it aired, and they still had them in the spring of '92, and when I woke up at night (as 0-6 mo's do) they'd usually watch TP while they put me back to sleep. So there's a good chance that TP was the first television I was exposed to. Which possibly explains a lot...
