i'm so fucked off.
when i was about 13 i adored S.E Hinton's books (Tex was always a fave) and read them all over and over again. then i saw that fecking film based on The Outsiders. nevermind, i saw a lot of crap films when i was younger (License To Drive, anyone?) and i thought that it was all behind me...you know, GONE.
today i was at waterstone's and in the 'recommended' section sat a copy of The Outsiders. i was overwhelmed by sudden nostalgia and thought that: yes, i'll have that, it's been over 15 years since i last read it and i really really want to read it again.
not good. 3 pages into it and all i can imagine is C.Thomas Howell as ponyboy and, even worse, Patrick Swayze as derry. i'm too afraid to look up who played Sodapop (my favourite character) because at least that is ONE thing i have managed to erase from my mind. although i have an ominous feeling it was emilio estevez...:/
and really, i don't feel like reading a book where whenever one of the characters appears, i get a mental image of that freak, tom cruise.
i can never go back.
