Been accepted to University of South Carolina's PhD program (tuition would be waived and would get $20,000/yr to live on from some kind of assistantship).  Also have acceptance for TX Women's U.  (But their open house isn't til 3/6.)  I'm supposed to pick b/w two as soon as I get two offers, but I can't really til I actually go to TWU ( Read more... )

Yeah thank god I didn't try to volunteer in that lab again. That would have all been for nothing. Columbia, SC. Not a bad town. Kinda small but I liked it. Seems similar in climate to Austin.

The grad student I stayed with was cool. We had some beers together. The POI was kinda weird there though which is my concern. He has no other grad students now and I asked him why and it was b/c his wife recently died (which is understandable). He isn't really doing any studies right now but was talking about ideas. So I would be his only grad student, which is weird. He was nice, but I didn't like him as much as Dr. Garos at TTU or Dr. Beard at Marshall.

The money is just so hard to say no to. Plus what I had read of his research in the past was cool. He is the main guy at the clinic there so he is mainly about practice which is good for me.

The other professors were nice, but nobody else in the program was doing anything at all related to Dr. Kilmann (prof at USC). Everyone was all doing child/adolescent stuff. They hardly have any profs doing work with adults. That concerned me. What if Kilmann flakes then I would have nobody to work with really.
