Title: Telegraph Avenue Kiss
Pairing: Jesse Lacey/Nate Ruess
Rating: PG13 for some off camera killing?
Dedication: To Andrea, hoping she has a good flight. And to Laila, because she's my crazy RP-partner-in-crime.
Summary: Because even though they haven’t talked about it, neither of them can stop thinking about it.
Part of the Terminator-esque AU. Yes really. Except with aliens instead of cyborgs. Shush.
They don’t talk about that first kiss for a long time.
They should have been able to come right back to it, after all, the Other outside the motel was easy to take down. It barely took them fifteen minutes to deal with. So they should have been able to go back inside and pick up from where they left off.
But they didn’t. They were both too scared to acknowledge it. To admit what it might mean.
So they didn’t talk about it.
Not even when Jesse recklessly saves Nate’s life a few weeks later. He pushes Nate out of the way, taking a shot in the leg to save him. When the Others are dead, his only reward is a swift punch in the gut. And Nate hoisting him up by his lapels and pinning him against the wall, snarling about stupidity and responsibility.
Not even when Jesse’s hips instinctively rock against Nate’s, and they end up kissing and groping in the alleyway near the border. They don’t talk about it then.
Because it takes them a little while longer to sort it out themselves. Because even though they haven’t talked about it, neither of them can stop thinking about it.
Until one night, just like any other night, in some nameless hotel in some nameless city, they get laughing again. A shared joke, a moment of embarrassment and they’re laughing. Laughing like it hasn’t been awkward between them for months. Like they’re not on this suicide mission to save a future Jesse isn’t even sure is going to happen.
They laugh. And then Jesse catches Nate’s eye. And he can’t ignore it any longer.
He crosses the room and kisses Nate again, soft and slowly.
When they finally break apart, all he says is, “Nate..?” It’s a question. An invitation to start talking about all of this.
Nate answers him by kissing him back.
