Why do humans act the way that they do? What is the motivating force that causes people to do the things that they do? Why are we, as a people, so dishonest and greedy? Why does everyone put up a façade and pretend to be someone that they aren’t? Why do we have to impress others? Why do people lie to each other? Why do we manipulate each other? Why can’t we just tell each other how we really feel?
Why are we so greedy? Why do we consume everything around us? Why do people, that horde all of the resources while others are left to starve, exist? Why do people always have to prove that they are better than everyone else? Why is everything a competition?
From the time we are children, we are taught to compete with each other. With games and sports, we are pushed to win, to be the best. We are pushed to be better than the other children. Our capitalist system convinces us that the way to succeed in life is to be better than everyone else. The whole system is built upon making people believe that they have to be the best. You want to get the best job, so you can buy the nicest car and most stylish clothes. You want to get the biggest house in the nicest neighborhood. You want to be the best. You want to have kids so you can teach them to compete. You want to be able to say you have the best children. The kids then grow up felling this way. It is an endless cycle.
Capitalism is about hooking you in, so all that you care about is perpetuating the system. This system isn’t about caring for each other. Capitalism is based on private ownership. It is based on consumption and accumulation of wealth. It is about who is the best and about determining who has the most, rather than working towards the common good, working to help each other. People don’t want to care for each other.
