It hasn't rained in Boston in quite a while. Which means that for the past few weeks, every Monday-Friday, the building next to ours has had construction workers outside starting at 8:30am doing things like sawing through metal directly underneath our window. Since the sound of metal being sawed through is probably one of the most annoying sounds in the world, this has been, bluntly, really fucking annoying. I usually get up at 8:30 anyway, but on the days that I get to sleep in, the construction workers make it pretty much impossible. I don't even know what they're building. I think someone might have hired them just to be a pain in the ass. Closing the windows doesn't work either because 1) the sound goes pretty much right through anyway and 2) since it's all sunny out, it makes the bedroom uncomfortably warm *and* noisy. Blah.
But today! Today there is rain! It's glorious, because there will be no construction! Instead, for the first time ever since I've lived in this building, they've decided to test the fire alarms with no advance notice and (you guessed it) at 8:30 in the morning. On a holiday, no less. Granted, it's not a holiday for me, but I bet the other people in the building are pissed. I'm rather pissed because it's incredibly disheartening to have the fire alarm go off seconds after you step out of the shower. That's a pretty big clue that your day is just going to suck. =^P
