Carlos and i returned from Peru last Sunday night.
The apartment was intact and we settled down for a rest after a long day of travel. We found that the pigeons had noticed our absence since there was pigeon poop on the balcony with a scattered feather here or there. These pigeons sure do seem to have a knack for deciding which balconies are the best to perch on.
Simply, i thought, all we had to do was start scaring them off and they would recognize our presence once again.
this morning, the blinds were closed and I could hear the pigeons cooing outside. This is my chance, I thought. I snuck up to the door and slid it open with a giant BAWK to scare them off once and for all!! But lo and behold.. they had left me a present in my plantar outside on my balcony. It was a freshly laid egg.
the guilt sunk in as I realized the cooing I had heard amongst the two pigeons was cooing of joy at their freshly laid offspring! the mother, probably still seconds away from laying yet another one.
SHIT. that bloody plantar couldn't grow my chive plants last summer but this year its growing pigeons.
now what am I to do?
one side of me says, yes! leave these pigeons be. let them hatch their offspring! It's the miracle of life, we must be one with nature!
yet another side of me chimes in
... it will be a month and a half until I will get to use my bloody balcony, the weather is warming and it's almost BBQ season!!
what will the apartment owners say when they find out i'm contributing to their ongoing pigeon problem?
what if other pigeons come in to roost!
what if this pigeon lays more eggs once hers are hatched!
who will clean up the bird poop! what about cryptococcus!!
my mind is tumbling. I do not want to kill any fetus pigeons. Yet I do not want this bird on my balcony... I fear that if I let the apartment owners know, they will simply toss the egg overboard.. must decide soon..
HELP!
