Wow, this is the first time that I have even booted my computer up in three weeks! I guess that is what happens when you attend a full-time fire academy. You high school kids complain about having too much homework; I have to read a chapter a day, do the workbooks (sometimes there are 4 to a chapter) do the take-home quizes (usually 2 to a chapter), shine my boots, wash and iron my uniform, make sure I have my name tag, make sure that I have all of my PT (physical training (like gym, sorta)) clothes and shoes, throw together a lunch, make sure that I have plenty of water, and a whole lot of other crap! ENJOY HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE IS STRESSFUL! But other than the non-stop work and no-sleep factor, the academy is amazing!
Once you get past all of the homework and the "because I said so" factor with the instructors/drill sgt., it's not that bad. I get to go "play" in a mock-city that includes a bank, houses, gas station/ qwik-e-mart, motel, and OH YES, A BURN TOWER. This thing is 5 stories of shit that burns. It is so awesome! Lots and lots of training there.
So far we have been only covering the basics, which is the stuff that I have already been doing for a year. Thank you Walled Lake Fire! We've been doing search and rescue, disorientated firefighter, stuff with ladders, lifts and carries (with people), and a whole lot of other cool stuff. Oh, every time that you don't say sir, you get at least 25 push-ups. everytime your boots aren't shined, you get 25 push-ups. Basically, you do something that they don't like, and you get 25. I had to do something like 250 push-ups in one day because if someone in you squad gets push-ups, you have to do them with that person. That is how they drill the "you are a team" factor into your head, and in my case, your arms. lol.
My PT instructor is a marine boot-camp drill sgt. that is psycho crazy! holy cow! I thought that i was going to die the first day! You Wild girls think that ladders are bad.......you should have a work out with this guy!
There is one other girl in the academy with me, but she is kind of a bitch, so all of the 34 guys, mostly single ;-) , come and hang out with me. It is awesome! I've shown a couple of them a thing or two which was kind of funny, but then they usually kick my ass later for embarassing them in front of the guys. but every one is really cool with each other.
Well, I think that I should go to bed so that I can get up early to finish homework and also study for this big test on monday. That's another thing, we have 100 question tests on every monday that covers all of the chapters that you have done up to that point. so you really have to know your stuff!
Wild girls: keep in contact with me, I want to know how your schooling is going! If you ever have any questions, or just need someone to talk to, I'm here for ya! I only have eight more weeks of school, and then I am free to do whatever. I graduate, again, on nov. 13, 2004. talk to you all later! Love ya!
