Halloween
Looking for halloween costumes really made me think about the sociology of the whole halloween tradition. As they say in Mean Girls, halloween in the one day of the year where girls have an excuse to dress as slutty as possible. Halloween is all about taking on a different identity, becoming something that you normally aren't. it's the one day where we revel in the socially unacceptable realms of gore and sex without concequences.
Every single women's costume that I came upon was "sexy this" or "sexy that". I don't know why it seems even more sexy than last year. ..Pretty much the only thing that I could find that didn't show off all of my legs was in the pirate section. Arg!
But fortunately for me, I'm going to a grad school costume party. "Dress up as something you hate" theme. I'm going as The Man...you know, like "damn The Man!"? Half of th epeople I tell are like, what's the man? I got a tophat, handlebar mousedache, wad of phoney money and a black men's suit that when I stuff it with a pillow, I'm an big fat rich guy. I wanna get a cigar, and make some business cards that say "the man" but that might just be overkill...
Then, b/c I'm the queen of frugality, since I'll probably go out to an undergrad party (i.e. slut-a-thon) with a good friend of mine, I'm gonna reuse the tophat, white gloves and bowtie but pair it with a short black skirt, some high boots and that red & black top that I wore for the Drag Bingo fashion show. Add a whip and voilla, you've got a sexy ringmaster! Teehee.
