[Wow. This new system sure is fancy. Voile's not really sure what she's supposed to be doing, but she does let the audio feed run normally as she leafs through a book. One can hear her turning the pages ever so carefully in the background.]
What do people here do on their birthdays?
[Come to think of it, she's not really sure what her old trainer

I think it really depends on the person! I like celebrating it with a small group of people, but some folks don't like to celebrate it in public or celebrate it at all!
[Whoops wait a sec.]
Hey Voile?

Hm? Yes? What is it?
[Of course she knows who this is. She hasn't forgotten him.]

Is today your birthday?
[Eehehe he's really hoping she says yes, his expression is just going from one step up the happiness ladder to the next.]

Oh... No. My birthday already passed. I just forgot that it had... Is there a rule against celebrating birthdays late?
Reply
Happy belated birthday, then!
And... not from what I can think of? Usually if my birthday wasn't really celebrated on the day, it could be celebrated a couple of days down the road. It was mainly if my dad was busy on that day or not.

[Voile's never had anyone say that to her before. Congratulations, Lucas. You've floored her a bit.]
Oh... Hm. I was thinking of getting myself a cake. And eating it. How did you celebrate yours?
[All by herself, apparently. Fat Gardevoir ahoy.]

[Just gotta spread the love and kindness to all of his friends, even if they don't necessarily need it.]
I've never had an entire cake to myself. I'd probably be eating it forever. [Ahhh.... hmmm... Last birthday what happened.] Um... I think it was something like I got treated to dinner and I had a small cake and ice cream. It was really fun!

[Not that he'll remember, but she knows that's a special one, so maybe he'll have an idea.]

First birthday? Wow. I don't remember a lot of it, but I've seen a couple of pictures and a couple of videos. I was so young at the time, I think that they made me a tiny cake or... cupcake or something. I looked like I was having a lot of fun.
But... I also remember Mom. [Lack of mother woes.] She gave me a special gift that year. I still have it to me, to this day. It's gotten me through a lot of tight spots.

[Voile doesn't really remember hers, unfortunately. She can't say where the rest of her family is, what they're doing, if they're all right. She grows a little nostalgic at the very thought.]
A special gift...?
[Don't mind her being nosy. She doesn't know what she's digging into.]

Yeah, she just kind of up and vanished one day a few years after my first birthday. I'm happy that we have all of that recorded stuff. When I go home I can help keep her memories fresh in my mind.
[He smiles and stands up, still leaning in camera's vision.] One second, I'll show you! [And he goes offscreen for a moment, there's a shuffle of drawers opening and closing and... he returns! In his hands is an older looking beret. It's kind of an exact copy of the one that's sitting on his bed, but it's faded and there's minute tears on it.]
She got me my first beret. I don't wear it that often because of how old it is, but I've worn it through a couple of gym battles and it really pulled us through.

She turns her attention onto his beret and she blinks.]
It's hard for me to picture you without it, actually. A beret, I mean. So do you wear them to honour your mother?
Reply
That's one of the reasons. The other one is I just really like wearing these. They're actually really nice hats and they're just really neat in general.
[And he removes the first one and replaces it with the older one. Hachaha.]

I wouldn't look right in berets or hats of any kind. So I just have these. I sort of think they're sentimental, too, but not like your berets are.

[Yeah there's no way to recall at this point. He chuckles sheepishly, scratching his chin.]
Hmmm... it would be a little funny looking. Those are really cool, though. I sometimes wish that I had something different. [He's still thinking.] Oh! Maybe ribbons would work? I know they're not hats, but maybe a big bow or something.
[Lucas what are you saying anymore.]

You think I should wear ribbons in my hair?
[Voile may be blushing a little.]
